Tarleton State, UCO Selected For First Annual Corsicana Bowl

The pairing for the first annual Corsicana Bowl has been announced. Tarleton State and Central Oklahoma will face off on Saturday, Dec. 12, at noon (CST) in a game that will stream live on FloFootball.com and the FloSports app.

Tarleton State, a Lone Star Conference member, finished the regular season 6-5 (4-4) after winning four of its first five games to start the 2017 season. Senior quarterback Zed Woerner led the Texans with 2,213 passing yards and 20 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.

Woerner, who owns the career mark for touchdown passes at TSU, was prolific at times this season, topping 330 yards passing on three separate occassions, including a monster game vs. Midwestern State two weeks ago, during which he completed 27 of 40 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for career best 85 yards on 10 carries.

Central Oklahoma, the MIAA’s representative, won five straight and six of its final seven games to cap a 7-4 season — a run that was punctuated by a 62-21 demolition of rival Northeastern State. The Bronchos are headlined by MIAA Offensive Player of the Year JT Luper.

Luper, a 5-foot-9 senior from Sherman, Texas, has hauled in 101 receptions for 1,544 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. He ranks atop all of college football, regardless of division, in yards and is tops in Division II in receptions. All of Luper’s single-season totals are school records.

Tarleton State and Central Oklahoma are not strangers. The Corsicana Bowl matchup represents the rekindling of what was, from 1994-2010, a Lone Star Conference contest. In the last meeting between the two teams, UCO pulled away for a 37-21 victory despite leading by just three points in the fourth quarter.

The Corsicana Bowl will be played in the 10,001-seat Tiger Stadium in Corsicana, Texas. The venue is the home to Corsicana High School and Navarro College.
