Labron Morris rushed for 134 yards and two scores to lead South Carolina State to a 33-15 victory over Hampton in the Bulldogs' final home game of the season on Saturday in Orangeburg, SC.

South Carolina State quarterback Dewann Ford Jr. went 18 of 27 for 180 yards and a score.

The Bulldogs grabbed an early 16-0 lead after a pair of Morris touchdown runs and a safety in the game’s first six minutes. Tyler Scandrett bumped the advantage to 19-0 with a 26-yard field goal to conclude the first half.

With 6:46 to play in the third quarter, wide receiver De’Montrez Burroughs hauled in a 4-yard touchdown reception to push the Bulldogs’ advantage to 26-0.

Hampton responded with a touchdown of its own — a 15-yard reception from Delmon Williams — but SC State’s defense held the Pirates in check for most of the afternoon.

With 2:15 to play Hampton running back Yahkee Johnson scored from 9 yards out, and Travon Thomas chased that score with a touchdown run of his own with just 18 seconds to play. Needless to say, these scores came too late for the Pirates.

Darius Leonard recorded eight tackles and two sacks for the Bulldogs — and then got engaged to his girlfriend, Kayla Sanderson, after the game.

Not a bad afternoon for the reigning (and soon-to-be back-to-back) MEAC Defensive Player of the Year.
