The following article was provided by Oklahoma high school football expert Ben Johnson -- the former award-winning sports editor of the Tahlequah Daily Press and a frequent contributor to the Tulsa World.
Daxton Hill dipped his toe in the varsity waters last season for Tulsa (OK) Booker T. Washington. Now, he's ready to dive into the deep end.
As a sophomore in 2016, Hill had only a few handfuls of touches on offense, mostly on the receiving end with 13 catches. His impact on defense was more pronounced with 45 tackles and two interceptions.
Going forward, Hill foresees plenty of time on both sides of the ball in his junior season. The 6-foot, 182-pound safety will have his next opportunity to make an impact on Friday, when Booker T. Washington hits the road to take on fellow 2-0 team West Monroe (LA) in the 2017 Battle On The Border at Shreveport Independence Stadium in Shreveport, LA.

"Time will tell," he said. "Hopefully I can get a chance to help my team out more on offense, but as things get further into the schedule I believe I may be playing both sides of the ball a lot."
His time on defense will be a certainty -- and nearly every major college from coast to coast will be watching.
A whirlwind offseason has seen Hill land offers from Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Texas, and many more. Meanwhile, Hill has ascended to a No. 1 prospect ranking within the state of Oklahoma. Still, he tries to focus his sights on the field.
"I don't let it get to me," Hill said. "I just play my game and keep getting better every day."
Working in Hill's favor is his pedigree. His older brother, Justice, is just two years removed from nearly a 2,000-yard rushing season for Booker T. Washington.
Justice Hill is now the starting running back at Oklahoma State, and he's offered little brother some advice.
"Tells me to remain humble," Daxton Hill said, "and keep playing my game."
