Lane Kiffin Is Stockpiling Quarterback Transfers At FAU
Eight months after new Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin welcomed former Florida State and East Mississippi Community College quarterback De'Andre Johnson into the fold in Boca Raton, FL, the Owls picked up two more high-profile quarterback transfers within hours of one another.

Auburn quarterback turned wide receiver John Franklin III was Johnson's predecessor at EMCC before injury and circumstance saw him lose playing time to Wyatt Roberts. Still, in spite of throwing for 100 or more yards just three times, Franklin III found a new home with the Tigers -- thanks, in large part, to offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.

Unfortunately for the former "Last Chance U" star, Lashlee departed for UConn during the offseason and consensus No. 1 JUCO prospect Jarrett Stidham arrived as the immediate favorite to take over at quarterback for head coach Gus Malzahn. On Monday, Malzahn surprised no one by confirming that Stidham would be his starter. One day later, Franklin, who was actually listed as a wide receiver on the Auburn roster, announced his intent to transfer.

The former three-star dual-threat quarterback is a graduate transfer who will be immediately eligible to play his senior season for what will be his fourth team in four years. Franklin's chances of getting behind center at FAU, however, seem to be virtually non-existent -- particularly early in the season -- with Johnson and Jason Driskel well into their own two-way battle at the position.

The addition of Franklin is intriguing -- and provides FAU with its third player from EMCC -- but the bigger transfer news of the day came out of Norman, OK, where former four-star pocket passer Chris Robison announced that he, too, will be playing for the Owls. Robison, who was a consensus top 10 quarterback from the class of 2017, was dismissed from the Oklahoma football program earlier this month for a violation of team rules.

Unlike Franklin, Robison will not be eligible to compete for Kiffin and the Owls until next season, but his presence in the quarterback room moving forward paints an optimistic picture for a program unaccustomed to having this sort of star power on campus.

In three seasons as the starter at Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas, Robison passed for 8,048 yards and 95 touchdowns and was a 2017 Elite 11 quarterback before enrolling at OU a semester early.
