Player Dies When Log Falls On Him During Drill
Sachem East (NY) High School football player Joshua Mileto died after he was fatally struck in the head by a large log during a pre-season drill.
A Long Island high school football player was killed Thursday morning after he was fatally struck in the head by a large log during a preseason drill.
According to police, Farmingville (NY) Sachem East High School players were carrying the log overhead during a conditioning drill at the school when it fell on top of Joshua Mileto, a 16-year-old junior on the team.
Mileto was taken Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"The district is devastated by this horrific accident and words cannot express the grief we feel as a school community," Sachem Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Graham said in a statement on the district website. "We extend our deepest condolences to the student's family and friends during this terribly difficult time."
