After watching South Carolina State beat Morgan State by 41 points, coach Chennis Berry had a message for his team about killing flies.
“It’s not the fly you just killed, it’s about the other flies that’s watching,” Berry told his players after the game.

Berry was warning the rest of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) after No. 22 South Carolina State beat Morgan State 51-10 on Thursday, Oct. 29, in Baltimore.
The defending conference champions improved to 7-2, extended their MEAC winning streak to 12 games and left Morgan State with an especially rough number: minus-12 rushing yards.
You Outrushed Morgan State Last Night

You could have spent Thursday evening motionless on your couch, eating chips and watching football, and still finished with more rushing yards than Morgan State. The Bears ran the ball 14 times and ended with minus-12 yards.
South Carolina State’s defense recorded four sacks and held Morgan State to 150 total yards without allowing an offensive touchdown.
The Bears made things interesting for a stretch, cutting an early 14-0 deficit to 14-10 midway through the second quarter. Then quarterback Keely Watson found Troy Hillman for a 20-yard touchdown as the first-half clock expired, giving the Bulldogs a 21-10 lead.
Morgan State never scored again. South Carolina State added 30 unanswered points in the second half, turning a competitive game into something resembling Berry’s pest-control demonstration.
Morgan State coach Damon Wilson acknowledged how much the late first-half touchdown hurt his team.
“It was a ball game, but giving up that touchdown right before halftime definitely hurt us,” Wilson said in the official Morgan State recap.
Keely Watson And South Carolina State Bring The Flyswatter

While South Carolina State’s defense was pushing Morgan State backward, quarterback Keely Watson kept the scoreboard moving. The senior completed 27 of 36 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.
Four different Bulldogs caught touchdown passes. South Carolina State finished with 509 yards of offense, 30 first downs and 213 rushing yards. The Bulldogs scored on all seven red-zone trips, including six touchdowns.
Berry praised the team’s execution in all three phases during his postgame address. His fly warning was also a reminder to the Bulldogs’ remaining conference opponents of what they’d just watched.
Are There Any Flies Left To Swat In The MEAC Championship Race?
South Carolina State is seeking its third straight MEAC championship. Berry has yet to lose a conference game since taking over the program in 2024, and Thursday’s win extended that streak to 12.
But the Bulldogs haven’t collected their third trophy yet. Three teams remain unbeaten in conference play:
- South Carolina State: 7-2 overall, 2-0 MEAC
- Howard: 4-4 overall, 1-0 MEAC
- North Carolina Central: 3-5 overall, 1-0 MEAC
Howard and North Carolina Central meet Saturday, Oct. 31, so one of South Carolina State’s closest challengers will take its first conference loss. The Bulldogs then face both teams in consecutive weeks, starting with Howard on Nov. 5 and North Carolina Central on Nov. 14.
Those games could decide whether Berry’s warning leads to another MEAC championship celebration or gives someone else a chance to spoil the party.
SC State Football Eyes Another Celebration Bowl
South Carolina State is chasing more than a third straight MEAC title. The Bulldogs want another trip to Atlanta.
The MEAC champion earns a berth in the Celebration Bowl against the SWAC champion. South Carolina State is the defending HBCU national champion after beating Prairie View A&M 40-38 in four overtimes last season.
At 2-0 in MEAC play, the Bulldogs lead the conference heading into matchups with Howard on Nov. 5 and North Carolina Central on Nov. 14. Win the conference, and Berry’s team will return to Atlanta on Dec. 12 with a chance to defend its title.
