Happy Halloweekend! There’s no doubt there will be plenty of tricks and treats on the field this weekend. But which teams will walk away with the King-Sized candy bars, and which will walk away with a toothbrush from their neighbor-dentist trying to minimize the inevitable cavities brought on by the holiday?

I’m no fortune teller, but I am pretty well-versed in the D2 football world, which is basically the next best thing. Here are my five predictions for D2 football’s spookiest weekend so far: Week 9.

Northern Michigan Picks Up Win #2

The Northern Michigan Wildcats were winless all season. Then, 60 minutes of football unfolded in Week 8. In a 27-20 decision versus Roosevelt, Northern Michigan secured its first victory in the Matt Janus era. The defense shut out the Lakers over the final three quarters of the matchup, forcing three interceptions.

Now, with their first win of the season, the Wildcats look to string together a winning streak following dominance against the Lakers. And I think they can do it.

Wayne State (MI) has had a rough start to their season, and they enter the weekend 0-8 overall. The Warriors’ biggest qualm is their offense. They have been shut out twice in GLIAC play, have only scored nine touchdowns this season and average less than 200 yards of offense per game.

Although Northern Michigan may not have a winning record, I think they can outperform Wayne State to pick up win number two in 2026.

Prediction: Northern Michigan Beats Wayne State.

Pace Stays Perfect In The NE10

Pace University Football has been hot, especially in the NE10, where they boast a perfect 4-0 record. They kept this mark intact with an incredible 20-19 win at Franklin Pierce in Week 8. Down by five with just 2:07 remaining, the Setters put together an 83-yard drive that ended with Luke Porcaro connecting with John Nasky Jr. for a 10-yard touchdown as time ran out. Pace handed Franklin Pierce their first NE10 loss of the season while they stayed perfect.

In Week 9, the Setters host conference rival Bentley, a team that has split their wins and losses with a 2-2 NE10 record. Bentley sports the best offense in the conference, averaging 417.7 yards per game and outpacing every team in the air and on the ground. Pace, however, is a defensive powerhouse. They’ve limited opponents to a conference-best 283.9 yards of offense per game, only allowing 15 touchdowns all season. The offensive game of the Setters isn’t so shabby, either; they rank third in the conference with 354.7 yards per game and 26 touchdowns on the season.

Prediction: Pace Beats Bentley

Grand Valley State Finally Gets Back In The Win Column

Please, Grand Valley State, I’m begging you. Do something.

For the first time since 2011, the Lakers lost three consecutive GLIAC games. Their losses were at the hands of No. 23 Michigan Tech in Week 6 (41-35, OT), No. 1 Ferris State in Week 7 (41-34) and Saginaw Valley State in Week 8 (27-20). Saginaw Valley’s win against GVSU was their first back-to-back win against the Lakers since 1984-85. Yeah.

Grand Valley’s Week 9 matchup has them up against GLIAC opponent Roosevelt, a team that started the season hot but has cooled off since. Roosevelt went undefeated through their first four games. Michigan Tech ruined their streak in Week 5’s GLIAC opener, and they’ve lost two games since. Their most recent loss was at Northern Michigan, who picked up their first win in 2026 against the Chicago Lakers.

So, here are my thoughts: Grand Valley State is a talented team that has been underperforming. They will spoil Roosevelt’s Halloween by winning for the first time in four weeks.

Prediction: Grand Valley State Beats Roosevelt

No. 21 Central Washington Wins, Again

A Central Washington loss in Week 9 might ruin my Halloween. Hopefully the Wildcats don’t let me down.

The 'Cats have been hot since Week 3, and I don’t see Eastern New Mexico (0-6, 0-8) putting out that flame. Central Washington has won their last six games straight, following close losses to FCS RV Cal Poly and No. 1 Ferris State. They’ve beaten two ranked teams on their way to Week 9.

I’ll keep this one short and sweet. CWash wins. Next.

Prediction: No. 21 Central Washington Beats Eastern New Mexico

No. 1 Ferris State Wins By One Score

Last, but not least, the prediction you’ve all been waiting for: Ferris State wins.

Making this prediction every week isn’t as easy as you might think, especially when the GLIAC is such a gauntlet of powerhouse teams. The Week 9 matchup is one of the harder ones I’ve had to predict, as unbeaten No. 1 Ferris State hosts unbeaten No. 9 Davenport in the annual Calder City Classic.

The Bulldogs have the best offensive and defensive totals in the GLIAC; Davenport hardly trails in either of those categories. Davenport leads the conference in rushing; Ferris State ranks just behind them. Ferris State has Wyatt Bower; Davenport has Cephus Harris.

This game really could go either way, and since Grand Valley State couldn’t beat the Bulldogs, I think that Davenport may be the GLIAC’s last chance to end Ferris State’s 38-game win streak. This is going to be a hard-fought game on both sides of the field, and only one team can come out unbeaten: I’m going with the ‘Dogs.

Prediction: Ferris State Beats Davenport
