From Ferris To Emporia: D2 Football's Undefeated 10

Only 10 undefeated teams remain in D2 football after seven weeks. See every 7-0 team, their biggest wins and where they rank in the FloCollege Top 25.

Seven weeks into the D2 season and of the 160 football teams in the nation, only 10 are still undefeated. Some of those were certainly expected, some are working their way back from an off-year, and a few are surprises to everyone.

Ferris State sits at the top of the mountain, as has been the case for the past three years running. The Bulldogs defeated their bitter rival Grand Valley State this past weekend in the Anchor-Bone Classic, dealing the Lakers their second consecutive loss of the season after they started 5-0. Either way, it is FSU's biggest win of the season so far, but they have Michigan Tech this weekend.

Harding and Kutztown started our preseason rankings at No. 2 and No. 3, and while the Golden Bears have slid down to No. 4, they maintain their undefeated season along with the Bisons. Harding's biggest win also came this past weekend against a then-undefeated Henderson State.

Likely the four biggest surprises in the list below are Emporia State, Slippery Rock, Davenport, and Northwood. The Rock has three big wins under their belt, having defeated East Stroudsburg, Duluth, and Indiana (PA), dropping 40+ points on all three teams. They are coming off a down year, where they went 6-4. I think most people knew Northwood would be good this season, but undefeated seven weeks in, having knocked off a very solid Findlay team early in the season.

Davenport is powered by one of the best running backs in the nation, Cephus Harris, who already has 1,387 yards on 174 carries, with 18 touchdowns.

At the beginning of the D2 playoffs last season, only three teams were undefeated: Ferris State, Harding, and Kutztown. Two of those teams have lost only one game since, and one hasn't lost in the last 37 games.
