2026 UAlbany vs Stony Brook

Battle Of The Golden Apple: What Is Ava Watching In Week 7

Battle Of The Golden Apple: What Is Ava Watching In Week 7

There are great CAA matchups this weekend, but the one I've got my eyes on is the Battle for the Golden Apple between Stony Brook and UAlbany.

Stony Brook vs. Towson Football Highlights | 2026 CAA Football5:56

Week 6 had me in a bit of a slump with so many CAA teams on a bye. But thankfully for everyone, they are so back.

We've got an electric rivalry game in New York, a sneaky-good matchup between Towson and Campbell and a Monmouth team trying to stay perfect in conference play.

There's plenty outside the CAA, too. My eyes are on Susquehanna vs. Moravian in the Landmark, and over in the NEWMAC, I've got Springfield vs. WPI pulled up on FloCollege.

I know you love college football, or you wouldn't be here. But if you really love college football, it's time to subscribe to FloCollege and watch every single one of these games (and more).

UAlbany vs. Stony Brook - 2:30 p.m. ET

If, and only if, you are following FloCollege and FloCollegeFootball on Instagram, you'll be able to see exclusive coverage of this rivalry game. The Battle for the Golden Apple has a trophy, plenty of history and a series that remains about as close as it gets.

UAlbany heads to Long Island to play Stony Brook at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 17, in their annual rivalry game. There's a little more on the line this time around, with both teams playing some of their best football. Stony Brook is near the top of the CAA with a 2-0 conference record, and its defense is among the best in the FCS. Sophomore Khalid Bueno leads the FCS in sacks and tackles for loss.

That defense will be tested by a UAlbany offense that ranks No. 6 in the FCS. Something has to give.

Since the rivalry was coined "The Battle for the Golden Apple" in 2015, Stony Brook leads the series 6-5. Is it time for UAlbany to take the trophy back home?

Towson vs. Campbell - 3:30 p.m. ET

Look at the records and this has blowout written all over it. Look a little closer, and things get more interesting.

Campbell owns the best overall record in the CAA at 5-1. Towson sits at the other end at 0-7. But that 0-7 deserves some context. In Week 6, the Tigers lost to Stony Brook by a touchdown. In Week 5, they lost to Monmouth on a field goal in the final minutes, falling by a single point.

In other words, Towson is winless, but the Tigers haven't exactly been rolling over.

Campbell is led by dominant quarterback Kamden Sixkiller, but Towson's Andrew Indorf can give him a run for his money.

Let's look at their stats:

  • Passing Yards Per Game
    • Sixkiller - 279.2
    • Indorf - 257.0
  • Passing Efficiency
    • Sixkiller - 152.6
    • Indorf - 163.1
  • Total Passing Yards
    • Sixkiller - 1,675 yards
    • Indorf - 1,542 yards
  • Completion Percentage
    • Sixkiller - 67.1%
    • Indorf - 68.7%

Those numbers don't look like quarterbacks leading teams on opposite ends of the standings.

If Towson pulls this off, the Tigers get their first win of the season and hand one of the CAA's top teams a massive upset. Don't let the records fool you. This one is worth watching.

Monmouth vs. UNH - 1:00 p.m. ET

Any game with Monmouth is worth watching right now. The Hawks lead the CAA with a perfect 3-0 conference record and are the only team in the league to reach three conference wins so far.

But there's another reason I'm watching this one: Monmouth is looking for its first win in program history against New Hampshire.

UNH has had a rough 2026 season, but the Wildcats have shown they can make things interesting. They lost to North Carolina A&T in overtime in Week 6, with NCAT kicking a field goal to secure the win. One week earlier, UNH upset Elon, proving the Wildcats are still capable of ruining somebody's Saturday.

So, does UNH finally hand Monmouth its first conference loss, or do the Hawks keep rolling?

Susquehanna vs. Moravian - 12:00 p.m. ET

I'm watching this Landmark game for selfish reasons. I made my prediction in my Week 7 DIII predictions, and now I need to see if Susquehanna makes me look smart.

I picked Susquehanna to win big over Moravian and keep climbing in the Landmark football standings.

Moravian currently brings up the rear of the conference, but the Greyhounds have some weapons in Dorian Thomas and Antonio Russo who can help put points on the board.

The problem? They'll have to keep pace with Susquehanna's Matt Surtz and Tommy Wright, who have been monsters this season.

I love being right, but I also love an upset. Either way, I'll be locked in Saturday.

Springfield vs. WPI - 12:00 p.m. ET

Looks like I'm pulling up a split screen at noon because Springfield vs. WPI deserves some attention, too.

Both teams enter 2-0 in conference play, so somebody's perfect NEWMAC record is disappearing Saturday.

Springfield looks like the favorite, led by Stanford Davis and his 491 rushing yards this season. The bigger difference is what Springfield does as a team on the ground, averaging nearly three times as many rushing yards per game as WPI.

But 2-0 is 2-0. I want to see if Springfield runs away with it or if WPI can turn this into one of the better games of the afternoon.
