The Eagles turned that defensive effort into a 3-0 lead in the second quarter when Nate Russell drilled an 18-yard field goal. Findlay couldn't find the end zone before halftime, leaving Ashland in front in a game where every point mattered.
The Oilers finally broke through in the fourth quarter when Chase Harrison connected with J. Williams on a 1-yard touchdown pass. The extra point put Findlay ahead 7-3, and Russell's second field goal brought Ashland within one at 7-6, setting up a dramatic finish.
Ashland got one last shot to complete the comeback. Coy Hamic moved the Eagles downfield with completions to Andrew McKnight and Chris Brown, including a fourth-down conversion that pushed the ball to the Findlay 48-yard line. But Findlay's defense held firm, forcing two incompletions to end the threat and preserve a hard-fought one-point victory.
