Four Teams Rest, Two Ranked Showdowns Await: 3 Things To Know About FCS Week 6

Four of the nation's top six FCS teams have the weekend off, but don't mistake a quieter schedule for a boring one.

Two ranked matchups could shake up the AFCA Coaches Poll, while an early Ivy League showdown gives Harvard another opportunity to prove itself.

From the Big Sky to the UAC and Ivy League, there's plenty at stake Saturday, Oct. 10.

Here are three things to know about the FCS Week 6 schedule.

1. Four Of The Top Six Teams Have Byes

No. 1 South Dakota State, No. 4 Stephen F. Austin, No. 5 Lehigh and No. 6 Montana State all have the weekend off.

That leaves No. 2 Tarleton State and No. 3 Montana as the highest-ranked teams in action.

With four national contenders watching from home, Saturday gives the rest of the Top 25 an opportunity to grab the spotlight.

2. Two Top 15 Showdowns Could Shake Up The Rankings

The two biggest ranked matchups feature teams near the top of the AFCA poll.

  • No. 2 Tarleton State at No. 8 Austin Peay: Saturday, 7 p.m. ET
  • No. 3 Montana at No. 14 Northern Arizona: Saturday, 5 p.m. ET

Tarleton enters undefeated at 5-0, while Austin Peay is 5-1. The Texans survived last year's meeting 45-44 in overtime.

Meanwhile, Montana is 3-0 in Big Sky play, but Northern Arizona is fresh off a 38-31 victory over Idaho State.

Two conference showdowns. Four ranked teams. Plenty of room for another October surprise.

3. The Ivy League Has An Early Showdown Brewing

No. 19 Harvard is undefeated at 3-0, but its perfect record nearly disappeared last weekend.

The Crimson needed a last-second Hail Mary to escape Colgate 20-17.

Now Harvard visits Cornell (2-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET, with both teams entering 1-0 in Ivy League play.

Cornell hasn't beaten Harvard since 2018, but a victory would give the Big Red an early advantage in the conference race.

The Ivy League championship won't be decided Saturday, but this matchup could help shape it.
