Clear your Saturday afternoon. The GMAC has a heavyweight fight on its hands.

No. 8 Findlay and No. 11 Northwood enter the FloCollege Division II Game of the Week with matching 3-0 records, postseason expectations and an opportunity to grab an important early advantage in the GMAC race.

These aren't two teams enjoying surprising September starts, either. Findlay shared the G-MAC championship and reached the NCAA Division II playoffs last season, while Northwood won nine games and earned its first NCAA playoff berth since 2006.

Now, two of the conference's remaining undefeated teams meet Saturday during Findlay's Homecoming at Donnell Stadium.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Sept. 26, with the game streaming live on FloCollege.

Findlay Vs. Northwood Is An Early G-MAC Heavyweight Fight

It may only be September, but this one could matter quite a bit when November arrives.

Findlay finished 8-1 in G-MAC play in 2025, sharing the conference championship with Ashland. Northwood wasn't far behind, finishing third at 7-2 in conference play and 9-3 overall.

Both teams reached the NCAA Division II playoffs.

Expectations remained high entering 2026. Northwood was picked second in the G-MAC preseason coaches poll, receiving four first-place votes, while Findlay was picked third.

Three games haven't done much to lower those expectations.

Findlay and Northwood are each 3-0 overall and 1-0 in G-MAC play, making Saturday one of the first major games in the conference championship race.

Findlay Football Hasn't Just Won, It Has Dominated

The Oilers have made quite an opening statement.

Findlay opened the season by going on the road and beating then-No. 9 Indianapolis 30-10. It followed with a 37-17 win over Fairmont State before dismantling Kentucky Wesleyan 64-0 in its G-MAC opener.

That's a combined scoring margin of 131-27 through three games.

The Kentucky Wesleyan win was Findlay's largest margin of victory of its NCAA era, and the Oilers piled up 636 yards of offense, including 301 on the ground.

Quarterback Chase Harrison threw for 275 yards and five touchdowns in the win, while Dominic Bennett, Jordan Matthews and Christian Davis helped Findlay overwhelm Kentucky Wesleyan on the ground.

But the offense isn't the only reason Findlay has climbed into the top 10.

The Oilers have allowed just 27 points through three games and held Kentucky Wesleyan to 141 total yards. Findlay recorded 10 tackles for loss and four sacks in the shutout.

Northwood will have to find a way through a defense that has made very little easy so far.

Ethan Hamby Gives Northwood A Chance To Change The Story

If there's a quarterback equipped for that challenge, Northwood has him.

Ethan Hamby enters the matchup as the reigning G-MAC Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 2,256 yards, 22 touchdowns and no interceptions during the 2025 regular season.

He's already shown this season that he can take over a game.

Hamby completed 37 of 45 passes for 391 yards and two touchdowns in Northwood's 35-28 win over Saginaw Valley State. He also added a rushing touchdown.

But perhaps the most interesting thing about Northwood's 3-0 start is how different each victory has looked.

The Timberwolves demolished Wayne State 52-0 in their opener. They survived a shootout against Saginaw Valley. Then, against previously unbeaten Hillsdale, they had to grind out a 10-7 victory.

Hamby's 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter gave Northwood the lead before Tyler Marrogy blocked a potential game-tying 43-yard field goal in the closing seconds.

Blowout. Shootout. Defensive battle.

Northwood has already found three different ways to win.

Remember What Happened The Last Time Findlay And Northwood Met?

Saturday also offers Northwood an opportunity to change the ending from one of its biggest games of 2025.

The circumstances last November weren't all that different.

Findlay entered the matchup 8-0. Northwood was 7-1. Both were nationally ranked and fighting near the top of the G-MAC standings.

Findlay went to Midland, Michigan, and won 31-16.

The Oilers controlled the matchup on the ground, outrushing Northwood 199-30. They possessed the ball for 39 minutes, 44 seconds, and recovered all three of Northwood's fumbles.

Hamby threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns, but the Timberwolves never led.

Harrison was on the other side then, too, throwing the touchdown that helped put the game away in the fourth quarter.

Findlay has now won two consecutive meetings in the series, including a 27-17 victory in 2024.

Can Northwood Solve Findlay's Run Defense?

That's the matchup to watch Saturday.

Findlay took Northwood's rushing attack almost completely out of the game last season, and the Oilers once again have been extremely difficult to run against in 2026.

That puts even more attention on Hamby.

Northwood knows its quarterback can win games through the air, but asking him to carry the offense against Findlay's defense is a difficult formula. The Oilers already have 11 sacks through three games and have consistently put opposing offenses behind schedule.

If Northwood can establish some balance and keep Findlay from turning the game into another one-dimensional matchup, the Timberwolves could make this meeting look much different than last November.

If not, the Oilers already have shown what they can do.

Two undefeated teams. Two returning playoff programs. Two nationally ranked G-MAC contenders.
