GVSU’s Perfect Series Against WTAMU
Thursday night will mark the fourth all-time meeting between the Grand Valley State Lakers and the West Texas A&M Buffaloes. The blue and black crew holds a perfect 3-0 record in the series, including 2-0 inside of their home base, Lubbers Stadium.
The series dates back to 2009 with the last meeting nearly 13 years ago. The two faced off in the third round of the NCAA playoffs on December 7, 2013. Grand Valley State won the battle 35-28 to advance to the National Semifinals.
The Battle Of Sophomore QBs
The matchup between West Texas A&M and Grand Valley State features two star quarterbacks, both of whom are redshirt sophomores.
Last season, Buffalo QB Knox Porter carried the top passing offense (357.4) in all of D2 football while helping lead the Buffs to rank third in the nation in total offense (487.1). Andrew Schuster of the GVSU Lakers led the GLIAC in passing, going 182-282 for 2561 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Last week, Porter went 28-for-42, throwing for 353 yards and two touchdowns. Schuster tallied 244 yards in the air, completing 19 of 28 passes for three touchdowns.
Grand Valley State’s Kellen Reed
Senior wide receiver Kellen Reed exceeded the 1,000 career receiving yards mark during the Lakers’ 38-10 season-opening victory at Charleston (WV). In the first outing of the season, he amassed 133 offensive yards and scored two touchdowns.
Reed led the GLIAC in 2025 with eight receiving touchdowns and ranked third with 612 receiving yards. He notched 977 all-purpose yards throughout the season.
