Davenport opened the 2026 season with a 32-20 victory over Gannon on Aug. 29, powered by a historic performance from running back Cephus Harris and a defense that delivered a crucial late stop when the game tightened in the fourth quarter.

Davenport controlled much of the afternoon behind Harris, who erupted for 351 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries, including scoring runs of 75 and 84 yards in the second half. His performance set a new Davenport single-game rushing record, helping the Panthers build a 27-7 lead before extending the margin to 30-14 early in the fourth quarter.

Gannon mounted a comeback behind quarterback Ty Hurst, who threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score. The Golden Knights pulled within 30-20 with 4:18 remaining, but Davenport preserved its two-possession advantage when D'Angelo Bellamy intercepted Gannon's two-point conversion attempt and returned it for two points.
