The biggest stories to come out of the exciting day began with the welcoming of three new coaches to the conference, including Coach Pincince, who took over Susquehanna's reigning championship program.
The 2026 season is sure to deliver intense matchups, with each team putting up a fight for the championship. Here are the top five from the Landmark Conference Football Media Day.
5. Bowl Games are on the Rise in DIII Football
Division III football offers a college football experience unlike any other. Student-athletes compete without athletic scholarships, balancing the demands of academics and athletics while often without many of the high-profile amenities found at the Division I level. But that hasn't stopped the Landmark Conference from creating a first-class experience for its programs.
While the Landmark champion earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Football Championship, the season doesn't have to end for everyone else. Through a partnership with the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), the conference's runner-up and third-place teams also have the opportunity to extend their seasons by competing in the Cape Charles Bowl and Cape Henry Bowl.
For many players, those postseason opportunities mean much more than one extra game. They provide another chance to compete alongside teammates, represent their school, and create lasting memories in their final weeks together. Teams travel, stay in hotels, face unfamiliar opponents, and experience the excitement of postseason football in a new setting.
Every program enters the season with its sights set on a Landmark Conference championship. But even for the teams that fall just short, the postseason offers something invaluable: one more opportunity to wear their school's colors, continue their development, and finish the season competing for something meaningful.
4. Three New Coaches Head to Make Waves
After three consecutive Landmark Conference titles, Susquehanna's head coach, Tom Perkovich, moved to the Division I level to coach at UAlbany. Taking his place is now the University of New Haven's winningest coach, Chris Pincince. During his ten-year stint in Connecticut, he earned his team 76 victories and five Division II Tournament appearances.
After arriving in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania in February of 2026, he sat down with the remaining 29 seniors to tell them how lucky he was to get to be a part of the Susquehanna culture. All eyes are on Pincince and Susquehanna to see if they can earn their fourth consecutive Landmark title, now under new guidance.
Moravian takes on the same challenge this season with the introduction of Head Coach Chris Sapp. After eight years as the associate head coach at the University of Rochester, Coach Sapp will be focusing on bringing the F.I.R.E. to the Greyhounds. He brings a motto to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, focusing on the (F)amily of the greyhound community, being (I)ntentional in every action, setting goals to be (R)elentless in achieving them, and being (E)nthusiastic about getting to play football for Moravian University.
Making more than one coaching change in the 2026 season is Catholic University, bringing in Head Coach Kory David and assistant coach Drew Ehrlich. Coach David has over 25 years of coaching experience, including being named the 2025 MAC Coaching Staff of the Year for helping Eastern University to its first-ever MAC Championship title.
Coach David brings a winning mentality to the program, but focuses on the community that Catholic has developed for itself and the importance of bettering its athletes as humans and professionals as well as football players.
Whether these coaches are using chemistry or acronyms to bring their teams together, they are all welcomed by the Landmark community with dreams of winning football games and bettering their athletes along the way.
3. Preseason Poll Reveals Close Battles to Come
The difference between the 2025 and 2026 Landmark Preseason Poll is jarring. In 2025, there was a clear favorite - Susquehanna. They earned 36 points, with 6 first-place votes. Moravian was second with 31 points and one first-place vote.
This year, only five points separate first and third place. After Lycoming's second-place finish in 2025, they sit at #2, with 30 points and one first-place vote. After their 6-1 conference play finish in 2025, they are no longer the underdogs, but hungry dogs.
Wilkes sits only one point behind Lycoming with 29 points and one first-place vote. Their only two losses in 2025 were Susquehanna and Lycoming, but they are looking to change that narrative in the 2026 season.
Now it's called a preseason poll for a reason, and the 2025 preseason poll could not have been further from the true outcome of the season. Lycoming was ranked fifth and placed second, and Moravian's second-place poll finished sixth. The poll seems to be a competition between Susquehanna, Lycoming, and Wilkes, but at the end of the day it's college football and anything is possible.
2. Susquehanna Won't Surrender With Coach Pincince
Susquehanna has consistently dominated the Landmark Conference, all under the guidance of Coach Tom Perkovich. At the end of the 2025 season, Perkovich made his way to the Division I level, bringing with him 4 of some of the best River Hawks. While some of the major talent from 2025 have either transferred to different schools or followed Perkovich to the University at Albany, for the returners it was never a question of where they would end up in the 2026 season.
The 2025 Defensive Player of the Year, Galen Limantour, returns for his senior year as a River Hawk. For Limantour and the River Hawks, it was never about one person or coach, but about the family they have built over the past four years together. They might have lost a couple of players and a coach along the way, but they are ready to rebuild and continue growing the program and its athletes.
When asked if Susquehanna was going to take their fourth consecutive Landmark title, defensive back Ben Fleming, defensive lineman Galen Limantour, and running back Matt Surtz all confidently raised their hands. Whether or not Coach Pincince was being humble or not trying to jinx himself, his hand stayed at his side.
Almost half of the roster is made up of seniors who will not let a coaching change stop them from earning their senior year victory. With a tough schedule ahead of them, it will be a battle to find their new groove, but there was no doubt in the panel's abilities to continue the Susquehanna legacy.
1. Lycoming University is Coming for the Landmark Title
Lycoming University football is led by a father-son duo and a dominant running back who are all hungry for the Landmark Title.
Entering his 18th year as Lycoming Head Coach, Mike Clark brings experience, the blood of a Warrior, and his son's final year at Wilkes.
In the 2025 season, Lycoming earned a 5-1 record in conference play, with its only loss to the Landmark champions, Susquehanna. That matchup was the game that decided the champion, and it was a brutal loss for the Warriors with a final score of 7-69. Susquehanna scored 45 of their points in the first half, with Lycoming only scoring their 7 in the last quarter. While that was a tough loss, there is a hunger in the Warriors that might just play in their favor in the 2026 season.
Susquehanna has a new coach and lost four of its star players, and Lycoming is going to take every advantage of this change.
Alongside the father-son duo, running back Terrence Oliver is on the hunt for new accolades this season. He already owns three Landmark records in rushing attempts, rushing yards, and all-purpose yards, and is only 703 yards off being the leader of all-time rushing yards leader at Lycoming. For Oliver, it is not just about records because he wants the championship title and a ring on his finger.
Oliver and both Clarks seem optimistic about this upcoming season and are ready to take on whatever battle this season has to offer in order to prove themselves as the best team in the Landmark Conference.
