Monmouth Capitalizes On Offense To Claim Victory Over Stony Brook

The Monmouth Hawks capitalized on offense all game to secure a CAA victory over Stony Brook. Relive all of the action in the recap!

The Monmouth Hawks capitalized on offensive momentum all game to secure a massive 49-21 victory over the Stony Brook Seawolves on Oct. 18. 

Action got started early with both teams scoring at least once in each quarter, barring Stony Brook who could not find the end zone in the final quarter. In the offensive back-and-forth battle, most of the game was within one or two possessions and the Hawks did not start to pull away until late in the third quarter. 

The Hawks end the game with 415 total yards of offense. Quarterback Derek Robertson was 19-for-29 on pass completion with 204 yards and three touchdown tosses. Rodney Nelson was the leading rusher for Monmouth with 141 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns. 

The Seawolves ended the game with 423 yards of offense. Quarterback Chris Zellous was 13-for-22 on pass completion with 103 yards. Zellous also had one rushing touchdown for Stony Brook. Roland Dempster was a leading rusher for the Seawolves with 92 yards on 19 carries and one rushing touchdown. 

With the victory, the Hawks move to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in CAA play. Monmouth will head on the road to take on Hampton on Oct. 25. 

Stony Brook moves to 3-4 on the season and 1-2 in CAA play. The Seawolves will return home on Oct. 25 to host Towson.

The Hawks put another seven points on the board with just four minutes left to play in Monmouth. Rodney Nelson showed off his speed with the 73-yard rush to find the end zone.

Monmouth finds the end zone once again extending the lead to now three-scores. Rodney Nelson muscled his way into the end zone.

The Hawks have forced another interception at Kessler Stadium! Chris Zellous is picked off once again, this time by Jaeden Jones. Jones returned the pick for 38-yards.

As the final quarter starts, the Hawks have found the end zone in the first two minutes. Frankie Weaver completes the 13-yard pass to Tra Neal to extend the Monmouth lead.

The Seawolves aren't going away without a fight as they scored late in the third to cut the lead to one-score. MarQeese Dietz completes the short pass to Chris Zellous for the end zone.

The Monmouth defense showed up! Chris Zellous' pass was picked off by Ryan Russo and returned 50-yards for the score.

With just 15 seconds left to play in the fist half, the Seawolves find the end zone to cut the Monmouth lead to one score. Roland Dempster rushes up the middle to muscle his way into the end zone.

Stony Brook and Monmouth have both been quiet offensively since the score in the early minutes of the second quarter. Both teams have marched down the field but have come up short.

Monmouth capitalizes on its offensive momentum once again and the lead is extended again by two-scores. Robertson completes the 15-yard pass to Tara Neal for the end zone!
