The Otterbein Cardinals fell to the Mount Union Purple Raiders, 62-7, in the Oct. 4 Ohio Athletic Conference clash at Kehres Stadium. Despite a promising early drive that ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by tight end Christian Pataky, Otterbein couldn’t keep pace with the Purple Raiders.

Mount Union’s offense exploded for nine touchdowns, including three from running back Shaun Thomas and a 95-yard pick-six by Jaeson Anderson late in the fourth quarter. The Raiders pulled away after a tighter first half, outscoring Otterbein 42-0 in the second. Mount Union improves to 4-0 (2-0 OAC), while Otterbein drops to 0-4.

The Cardinals showed flashes of momentum, particularly during a long second-quarter drive that flipped the field, but turnovers and mounting pressure proved costly. Otterbein’s losing streak against Mount Union now stretches to 46 games, dating back to 1977.

Mount Union comes out on top. Otterbein put up a good fight particularly in the first half. But when the Purple Raiders found their groove, there was no stopping them.

That makes for four touchdowns in the second half and seven touchdowns total for Mount Union.

Mount Union’s drive stalled after an incomplete pass on 3rd down, and they punted to pin Otterbein at their own 6-yard line. Otterbein then engineered a methodical drive, with key runs from Rocco DeLorenzo and a 12-yard pass to Zane Duning converting a 2nd-and-12 deep in their own territory.

As the Cardinals pushed upfield, Duning came up clutch again with an 11-yard reception on 3rd-and-6. The drive maintained momentum through multiple first downs, steadily flipping the field and draining the clock.
