GLIAC Football Previews & Predictions For Week 4 Of The 2025 Season

Here’s a look at what's happening in the GLIAC during Week 4 of the 2025 season, along with a prediction for the lone game.

Last week, the results for the teams in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference were about as predictable as we’ll see this season, but peeking at the slate of games for Week 4 offered a pretty big surprise.

Of the eight teams in the GLIAC, only one is playing this week – Wayne State. Strange.

It was worth double-checking, as it seemed unlikely, but it appears to be true. Maybe there’s a GLIAC-observed holiday we haven’t heard about, or the teams just want to be rested before diving into two months of conference battles.

Conference play is where the squads really want to shine, so it makes sense. Take the time if you can, get back to full strength and finalize the plans you hope will help you to a GLIAC championship and/or a spot in the NCAA Division II postseason.

From looking at the results through Week 3, or just at last Saturday’s scores, defending GLIAC and Division II national champion Ferris State probably is the only team upset about having this weekend off. Maybe Davenport, too. More on that below.

Ferris State is 4-0 this season, riding an 18-game winning streak that began in the second week of play last year, has scored 214 points this season and just beat Rio Grande 76-0 for a memorable homecoming victory.

Davenport was the other GLIAC team to win last week, topping Northern Michigan 35-16 in the first conference game of the 2025 season for the entire GLIAC. The loss was the team's 26th in a row and spoiled NMU’s homecoming weekend, while giving the Panthers a chance to see what it’s like at the top of the conference standings.

The Panthers were supposed to bring that momentum into their final nonconference game – and home opener – against California’s Lincoln University on Thursday, but the game was canceled without any explanation.

The independent LU team, which played for the first time in 2021, has one of the most bizarre histories around – far too much to get into here, as we’ll focus on the on-field stuff, but just the right amount for USA Today to explore in February 2024.

The Oaklanders don’t have their own facilities. They’ve played every game on the road, going 3-42 so far, including a 0-4 mark this season. In four games, they have been outscored by their opponents, 239-26. Last week, Lincoln lost to Idaho State 90-0.

Now, Davenport can only rely on practice time to stay focused and sharp for the team’s next conference game, an Oct. 4 showdown with Grand Valley State. A win in that one for the Panthers could be like a catapult. A loss would make challenging for a GLIAC title much, much tougher.

GVSU, a perennial favorite to at least contend for the GLIAC title, suffered a 17-14 loss to Pittsburg State two weeks ago and will have to wait until the Davenport game to get any kind of redemption. The Lakers’ schedule includes back-to-back bye weeks.

Michigan Tech’s loss to Upper Iowa last week (21-14) might be considered an upset by some, as the Huskies entered the contest at 3-0, ranked No. 10 in the FloCollege D2 Football Rankings, and ready to enjoy a festive homecoming game.

The Peacocks clearly had other plans, however, and used a 21-point second quarter to put the game out of reach early.

Saginaw Valley State’s meeting with New Haven could’ve gone either way, and the score reflected that. New Haven escaped with a 35-28 win after leading 35-14 at halftime.

For Northern Michigan, Roosevelt, and Wayne State, recent history would show that unless they’re playing each other, you’d be right more times than not if you pick their opponents. That’s not a dig, it’s just numbers, and all three were defeated last Saturday.

This week, Wayne State will be the pride of the GLIAC as the only team in action. The Warriors will host Quincy in Detroit on Saturday at 1 p.m. Eastern.

It’ll be quiet, but here’s a look at the matchup for the GLIAC during Week 4 of the 2025 season, along with a prediction for the game.

Note: The start time for Saturday is Eastern. The contest will be streamed live on FloCollege.

GLIAC Teams In Week 4

Sept. 27 (Saturday)

*Quincy at Wayne State, 1 p.m.

Wayne State is coming off a 31-22 loss to Wisconsin-La Crosse and has opened its campaign at 0-3 for the second consecutive season.

The Warriors actually started their 2024 season with nine straight losses but finished strong, closing the year with wins against Roosevelt and Northern Michigan to get to 2-9 and trampoline from the bottom of the GLIAC standings.

WSU showed some fight last season and even pushed eventual national champion Ferris State to the brink in a unique weather-impacted game that spanned two days, but the Warriors have been slow out of the gate in 2025.

Through their three games, they’ve only held the lead for one quarter, though a late surge last week gave them their closest result of the season – a 31-22 loss to Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Wayne State scored the game’s first touchdown and last 15 points, but it wasn’t enough, as UW-La Crosse scored 31 consecutive points across the second, third, and fourth quarters.

The Warriors had 277 total yards (201 through the air) against the Eagles, while giving up 398 total yards. Braden Siri led the aerial attack for Wayne State, connecting on 11 of 16 passes for 139 yards. Champion Edwards completed five passes for 62 yards.

WSU and Quincy have played once before, a 2019 contest won by Wayne State, 33-7. That game was held in Quincy, Illinois. This time, the Warriors will play host.

Quincy is 2-1 this year, with the loss coming to GLIAC newcomer Roosevelt on Sept. 6 (23-21). That contest featured a combined 24 points in the fourth quarter. Last season, Quincy was 6-4 overall.

PREDICTION: This is Wayne State’s most winnable game until the end of the season, when the Warriors again close things out against Roosevelt and Northern Michigan. It should be a competitive game and a close contest, but Quincy just seems to have a little more offensive firepower this year. Quincy takes this one, 24-14.
