UT Permian Basin and Midwestern State meet up in Midland, Texas, for their second LSC clash of the season. The Saturday, Sept. 27, game will mark the teams’ 10th historic matchup.

Midwestern State (0-3 overall, LSC No. 9) leads the matchup record with six wins; however, UTPB (3-0 overall, LSC No. 2) has taken the last two games. MSU has history on its side, while UTPB looks to continue its streak. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. ET.

UT Permian Basin started LSC play last week in a nail-biter against Texas A&M-Kingsville. UTPB came out hot and put the first points on the board, building a 16-point lead. The game found a tie score twice despite the early advantage, first in the third (16-16) and then in the fourth (23-23). With 12:11 on the clock in the last quarter and a tie score, the Falcons found three touchdowns in four minutes. The lead won UTPB the game, even with an end-of-quarter touchdown by Kingsville.

The Falcons thrive on offense, and the recent match shows they turn it on under pressure. Permian Basin earned 491 total yards and held the ball for 36:52 minutes. An easy win would have left UTPB merely confident, but the close game against Kingsville left the team prepared and hungry. That fire will translate directly into their next LSC game against Midwestern State, where they will look to continue their undefeated (3-0) season.

Midwestern State started off its LSC play with a tough loss against Eastern New Mexico (56-31). Both teams scored within the first three minutes of play, setting a 7-7 tie score. In the last 30 seconds of the first quarter, ENMU found the advantage and kept it the rest of the game.

The Mustangs played a solid game despite the loss. Quarterback Jakolby Longino completed 24 of his 37 passes and scored two touchdowns for the team. MSU, coincidentally, like UTPB, earned 491 yards in its LSC opener and 25 first downs.

Their season started with a loss at Missouri Southern (19-33) and a home game against No. 8 Western Colorado (13-38), resulting in another loss. In their past two games, MSU has had strong final quarters where they outscored their opponents, finding 13 and 14 points in the Western Colorado and Eastern New Mexico games, respectively. If the Mustangs harness that fourth-quarter energy earlier in the game, an upward trend may be in their future.
