In Week 2, several Lone Star Conference teams will start league play, with the two marquee matchups being West Texas A&M vs Western New Mexico and Angelo State vs Eastern New Mexico.

While these four teams will play conference opponents, Sul Ross is being tested again by a Division I team, facing off against FCS Stephen F. Austin. The Lobos will make the trip to Nacogdoches, still on the hunt for their first win, but playing their second DI opponent.

The Angelo State Rams moved up to No. 6 in Flo’s rankings following their win over Emporia State. They’re one of three LSC teams in Flo’s rankings, and are the highest of the ranked teams in the conference. Starting conference play with a road trip to Eastern New Mexico, the Rams are looking to set the tone for this season and win their second-straight conference championship.

West Texas A&M is heading to Western New Mexico for their first conference game of the season, and both teams are looking to start LSC play with a win. Both teams are looking to avenge losses, especially the Buffs, as they lost in heartbreaking fashion.

Here are some things to know going into week two.

Lone Star Conference Players To Watch

Connor Ackerly - QB - WNMU

The redshirt freshman threw for 529 yards in the loss to New Mexico Highlands, leading a hopeful comeback that would erase a 35-7 deficit and tie the game in the fourth quarter. He added seven touchdown passes, setting a school record. His play is something to keep an eye on, as he led quarterbacks across all divisions with his performance, earning Lone Star Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Demetrias Charles - CB - Angelo State

The senior corner had an impressive defensive performance, snagging two interceptions in the first quarter, returning one for a 21-yard pick six. His defense would help the Rams to a 41-20 win in their season opener and he earned Lone Star Defensive Player of the Week honors.

RJ Martinez - QB - West Texas A&M

In the heartbreaking loss, Martinez had over 400 yards of offense, throwing for 273 yards and rushing for another 133, but fell just short in the fourth quarter. Now, he’s hungry for revenge, looking to get his team its first win of the season against the red-hot, or green-hot (like the New Mexico chiles) Mustangs.

Bold LSC Predictions For Week 2

Texas A&M Kingsville goes off for another big win. While this prediction may not be bold, the Javelinas looked good in their season opener, quarterback Jack Turner threw for 278 yards and tossed four touchdowns, they have everything they need to win big again.

Connor Ackerly dismantles the WTAMU defense. In week one, Ackerly showed his potential, and if he plays to even a fraction of that this Saturday, the Buffs defense won't stand a chance.

Sul Ross gets blown out, again. Another not-so-bold prediction, but we saw what happened to the Lobos the last time they faced a DI opponent, and that was one playing its first ever game as a program. With the established Jacks, SFA is going to dismantle everything the Lobos try to do.

Angelo State wins big against Eastern New Mexico. The Greyhounds lost to a solid opponent in Colorado Mesa, but the Rams have dominated their competition this season and are rolling at 2-0. The Rams are a complete team and that will be their main factor for winning big on Saturday.
