On Saturday, September 13, the Golden Eagles will make the trip south to Livingston, AL for the first time.
Looking to continue their win streak, the Tigers are led by Spencer Arceneaux, who has accounted for five touchdowns, two in the air and three on the ground. Through two games, he’s thrown for 313 yards and run for another 132.
The Tigers have dominated on the ground with running back Brayden Jenkins who has run for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles' offense looks to beat opponents in the air, and quarterback Ean Hamric has had mixed results through two games. In the season opener against Livingstone, he threw for 285 yards and five touchdowns but he struggled against California (PA), throwing for just 100 yards and one touchdown, while throwing two picks.
In the final season of the Gulf South, West Alabama is looking to go out with a bang, winning the conference. With Arceneaux under center, the Tigers have a 16-7 overall record, improving from 5-5 to 9-2 in his first to second year as a starter.
Now in his third year, he’s looking to lead the Tigers to another winning season and playoff appearance, after West Alabama fell in the first round last year.
Charleston is also looking to get back to the playoffs after an 11-1 2024 season, when they lost in the first round to Ashland. Hamric is also going into this third year under center, with last year being his first as the sole starter.
In a battle of experienced quarterbacks, it’ll be about the defenses, seeing who can come up with more stops. The Eagles’ defense has given up an average of 320 yards so far, while the Tigers have allowed an average of 276 yards.
While stats and previous games can be compared all day, it all comes down to who plays better on Saturday, and it’ll be up to the teams to fight it out on the gridiron at 2:00 p.m. ET.
