Delta State Football opened its 2025 season with an upset of No. 20 Central Missouri. See how the full game played out here.

No. 20 Central Missouri traveled south to Delta State to open the 2025 NCAA DII Football season at home live from Parker Field at McCool Stadium in Cleveland, MS. The Statesman, also known as the Fighting Okra, are looking to get back into NCAA playoff form, and against the ranked Mules, they proved they're getting back to their winning form.

The Statesmen have garnered lots of preseason excitement, and lived up to the hype, taking down the Mules 31-23 in a wild game.

Delta State Upsets No. 20 Central Missouri 31-23
With the Mules knocking on the door late, the Statesmen defense held their own, something they did well all night, keeping the Mules out of the end zone when it mattered most.

Delta State Gets The Big Stop And Win
With Central Missouri knocking on the door, needing one touchdown and two point conversion to tie the game, the Statesmen came up big on fourth down with 45 seconds left. The Statesmen took a knee and completed the No. 20 Central Missouri Mules 31-23.
Delta State Comes Up Empty
The Statesmen marched down the field and were stopped short of the goal line. Forced to try for the field goal, it was hooked wide left and no good, keeping Central Missouri within another touchdown and two point conversion.
End Of The Third Quarter
Coming out of the locker room, Central Missouri has come to life. After a slow second quarter, they took to break to regroup, and scored 15 points, cutting into Delta State's lead.
Central Missouri Punches In A Touchdown
Central Missouri marched down the field and scored a touchdown and then added the two-point conversion, cutting significantly into Delta State's lead. The Statesmen still lead 31-23.
Central Missouri Adds Three
Unable to add six points on the drive, the Mules settle for the field goal, cutting the lead to 16. Delta State leads 31-16.
UCM Punts, But Gets It Back?
On 4th and 14, the Mules punted, but a Statesmen touched it, and the Mules picked the ball right up and got it back.
Delta State Punches In Another Score
The Statesmen marched down the field and added another score, extending their lead to 31-12 with 11:51 left in the third quarter.

Second Half Is Underway
Delta State received the second half kickoff and after a big return will start with the ball near midflield.
Halftime: Delta State: 25, Central Missouri: 12
After a first quarter that ended with a score of 13-10, the second had a score of 12-5. On a rainy night, holding onto the ball has been a struggle for both teams as there have been several drops and fumbles.
Central Missouri Safety
The Delta State long snapper missed the target this time, and the snap went over the punter's head. He dove one it in the end zone with three seconds left in the first half. Delta State still leads Central Missouri 25-12.
Delta State Adds A Field Goal
After marching down the field, the Statesmen finished their drive off with a field goal and have now score 15 unanswered points to take the lead 25-10.
Delta State Safety
Another snap over the Central Missouri punter's head, but this one puts points on the board for the Statesmen. Delta State leads 22-10 and now gets the ball back.
Statesmen Big Drive And Score
The Statesmen marched down the field thanks to two big pass plays and one pass interference called in their favor and then punched in the touchdown from the three yard line. The extra point was good and Delta State leads 20-10.
Delta State Muffed Punt
After stopping the Mules, Central Missouri punted the ball, but the punt returner muffed the punt and the Mules have the ball back in Statesmen territory.
Central Missouri Adds A Field Goal
The Mules cut the lead to three with a field goal. There's 13:47 to play in the first half and Delta State leads 13-10.
That's It For The First Quarter
Delta State leads No. 20 Central Missouri 13-7 after 15 minutes. The Mules struck first, but the Statesmen struck back harder, taking the lead after 15 minutes.
Delta State Turnover On Downs
The Mules lucked out that the Statesmen could not capitalize on their solid field position. They turned the ball over on downs.
Near Punt Horror For The Mules
The snap on fourth down and four goes over the head of the punter, but he gets the kick off from deep inside Mule territory. Delta State takes over at the Mule 43.
Delta State Touchdown
The Statesmen wasted not time turning defense into offense, scoring on their first play of their second offensive possession. Delta State now leads 13-7.
Statesmen With The Stop
After forcing a third down and 17, the Statesman force the fumble and recover deep into Central Missouri territory. Delta State will start with the ball at the Mules' 31.
Delta State Strikes Back
The Statesman marched down the field and scored a touchdown of their own, a pop pass and a goal line stretch, tying the game at 7-7 with 8:40 left in the first quarter. Watch it here:

Central Missouri Strikes First
