The Puget Sound football team hasn’t won more than three games since 2019, but the Loggers head into the 2025 season with a top-rated offense and new defensive leadership.

The team is coming off a 2-8 campaign in 2024 that included a 1-6 mark and second-to-last-place finish in the Northwest Conference, despite having the No. 8 passing offense in NCAA Division III.

The two main team highlights for Puget Sound last season were a 49-41 double-overtime win over La Verne in September and a 38-23 conference win against last-place Willamette in November.

The Loggers surrendered more than 46 points per game in 2024 and will step into the new season with co-coordinators on the defensive side of things.

Jeff Schmidt, who has been with the team for almost a decade, serving various roles, and Jud Keim, who joins the Loggers after a year at Lewis & Clark, another NWC team, will co-lead the defense.

Though the Puget Sound offense will get a new main quarterback in 2025, the squad returns eight offensive starters from last year’s successful squad.

The Loggers will begin their 2025 slate at home Sept. 6 against Lewis & Clark in a game that will not count toward their conference records. They will meet again Oct. 4 for their official conference showdown, which will be the start of conference play for both teams.
