The Pacific University football team has consistently been around the .500 mark each season for more than a decade – sometimes just over, sometimes just under and a few times, right on the number.

The 2023 campaign was a bit of an anomaly, however, as the Boxers saw their season-opening game ruled a no-contest due to lightning. They then dropped their next two games and went on to finish the season with a 2-7 overall record.

Pacific rebounded in 2024 with a 5-5 overall record and 3-4 mark in Northwest Conference play. Two of those conference wins came in the final two weeks of the season, and perhaps the Boxers can roll that momentum into 2025.

The season-ending wins for Pacific came after a four-game skid, the last of which was a 68-28 loss to eventual NWC champion Linfield. The Boxers downed Willamette (24-10) and George Fox (39-11) to close the season.

Much of Pacific’s success in 2024 was fueled by running back Brody Bantolina, who recently was named to the second-team offense for the D3football.com 2025 Preseason All-America Team.

Last season, as a junior, the 5-foot-8, 170-pound running back led NCAA Division III with 2,198 all-purpose yards and was second in rushing with 1,533 yards, a Pacific University single-season record.

Bantolina also set school records for rushing yards in a game (256) and the longest run (99 yards). His 15 rushing touchdowns in 2024 tied another school record, set in 2015 and tied the following season.

Pacific’s new campaign, and Bantolina’s senior season, will get underway on the road against Howard Payne University on Sept. 4. Conference play will start at home against 2023 Northwest Conference champion Whitworth on Oct. 4.
