In 2025, Southern Connecticut State football was picked to finish fifth in the NE10, and the Owls are looking for their first winning season since 2016. Winning will be a challenge for the Owls as they lost many key offensive players and currently don’t have a quarterback who has seen game action.

In 2024, Keith Ridley was the only quarterback to take a snap, throwing for 2,657 yards and 20 touchdowns while also rushing for five touchdowns. On the ground, running back E’lijah Gray ran for 1,047 yards and eight touchdowns, putting holes in the two most important spots of the Owls’ offense, quarterback and running back.

Jaylon Tucker is the top offensive player returning, and the graduate student wide receiver had 18 catches for 313 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Divine Edwards is the next receiver returning and he had 13 catches for 138 yards and one score. 

Not only are the Owls depleted on offense, but on defense as well. 

Despite having almost an entirely new starting lineup on both sides of the ball, Southern Connecticut State has added Joe Loth as the new head coach of the Owls, hoping his history of winning can turn the program around.

Loth comes to SCSU from Western Connecticut State, where he turned around a struggling program, turning a 21-game losing streak into twelve straight winning seasons. He was hired on May 5, giving him just the summer to work with his new team.
