Norwich Cadets Football 2025 Season Preview | NEWMAC Football
The Norwich Cadets finished last in the conference last season, but head coach Bill Russell hopes to reverse a difficult first year at the helm.
The Norwich Cadets suffered a tough blow last season as they were served their first season without a win in over a decade, going 0-10 overall. They were outscored on average by 18 points per game and gave up almost 1,000 more yards than they gained.

While it wasn’t the best first year for newly appointed head coach Bill Russell, there’s only one direction to go from the bottom of the conference, and that’s up.
Junior starting quarterback Aidan Sullivan showed potential in 2024, throwing for 1,302 yards and six touchdowns, but threw 11 interceptions.
The Cadets had two reliable wide receivers in graduate student Henri Bourque and senior Will Thornton. Bourque caught 40 passes for 453 yards and four touchdowns, while Thornton caught 39 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns.
The rushing game was mainly dominated by graduate student Jehric Hackney, who ran for 488 yards and hauled in four touchdowns.
Although Norwich came last in offense, the defense was able to stay afloat in the conference standings. Senior linebacker Shayne Leddy landed third in the conference in total tackles with 93, with 61 of them being solo. He’s also the only defensive player on the Cadets to have at least one interception, pass break-up, quarterback hurry, fumble recovery, and forced fumble to his name.
Leddy was also one of four Cadets to earn postseason NEWMAC recognition, gaining First-Team honors.
Norwich has posted its 2025 lineup, and it seems that quarterback Sullian is set to return for his senior season, alongside Bourque and Leddy, but Thornton and Hackney were not listed. Head coach Russell could take this as another year to develop some of his most elite players as the Cadets hope to see a win in 2025.
Who Is The Norwich Football Head Coach?
Bill Russell was appointed head coach of Norwich in November of 2023 after serving in multiple other roles for the Cadets over 16 years, including associate head coach, special teams coordinator, and inside linebackers coach.
In 2024, Russell helped four of his players garner NEWMAC All-Conference honors, including a First-Team selection with linebacker Shayne Leddy.
