Muskingum Football 2025 Schedule, Preview And More
In 2025, Muskingum football is looking to improve on its 5-5 season and they're armed with a solid group of returning players and a new head coach.

Muskingum football started off its 2024 season with three straight wins, but lost five of its next seven games leading to a 5-5 finish. Now, in 2025 with the returning duo of quarterbacks Garrett Gurney and Cavan Cooper, the Fighting Muskies just need to find the success to push them over the edge of a winning season.

Each threw for over 1,000 yards, with Gurney leading the way with 1,471 yards and 12 touchdowns on an almost 70% completion rate. Cooper was not far behind, throwing for 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns.
A pass-first offense, top target Davion Grant is set to have another explosive season his junior year, looking to follow up on his 1,123 yard and eight touchdown season. Running back Chandler Ross is another returning player set to have a big impact, rushing for 429 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Gurney ran for 234 yards, punching in seven touchdowns of his own.
On defense, Martavious Johnson is set for an explosive senior season after recording 88 total tackles, one sack. 2.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, one interception and one blocked kick at linebacker. The top returning tackler and an experienced veteran, he’ll be the one to lead fellow linebacker Ekyri Williams in his junior season.
Led by head coach Matt Nardo, who is going into his first season as head coach, the program is welcoming change. Nardo has lots of experience at the Division II and Division III level, including coaching the Marietta Pioneers wide receiver group.
He comes to Muskingum from Bluffton College where he helped create a monumental turnaround within the football program, leading them to their best conference finish ever. Now, he’s back at where his coaching career began, this time as the main man in charge.
With established veterans and a new head coach with a track record of winning, the Muskingum Fighting Muskies are primed for success in 2025.

The first round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Playoffs will be Nov. 22.
The 2025 Division III Football Championship title game will be played Jan. 10, 2026, at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
