In the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Preseason Football Coaches’ Poll, the Tusculum football team was selected to finish last in the 10-team conference this year, and there’s no doubt the Pioneers now want to prove the voters wrong.

Tusculum was 1-9 overall and 1-7 in conference play last season, but that was not the trend the Pioneers had been setting with winning campaigns in 2022 and 2023.

The journey to get back on the right side of the standings will begin on the road at Bluefield State on Aug. 30. Conference play for Tusculum will start at home the following week against 2025 SAC favorite Lenoir-Rhyne.

Tusculum’s lone win last season was a 30-28 victory over newcomer Anderson at the end of October. 

The Pioneers’ season started with six consecutive losses and ended with another three, giving up 30 or more points eight times.

Once again, Tusculum will be under the leadership of Billy Taylor, who was named the team’s head coach following the 2023 season. He replaced Jerry Odom, who coached the team for eight seasons, compiling a 42-38 record, before stepping down to move up to the NCAA Division I level.
