In 2025, the Capital University Comets are looking to bounce back from a 1-9 2024 outing, and are returning several key players to do so. Led by head coach Brian Foos who is entering his sixth year as head coach, the Comets are still searching for success. Foos has not had a winning season during his time at Capital, despite seemingly doing everything right.

He’s got the player retention, but his teams struggle on defense, and last season gave up an average of 481.6 yards per game, proving fatal against talented offensive teams in the OAC. Now, the Comets are looking for their first winning season since 2009, something that seems to be a tall task for Coach Foos and his team.

Despite this, the Comets have several key players returning, including quarterback Donovan Duncan, who saw action in six games last season, throwing for 249 yards and two touchdowns. Kassim Johnson, who led the team in rushing with 385 yards is returning for his junior season at running back and is hoping to make an impact out of the backfield.

At receiver, Nate Younker is the top offensive player returning, as he had 563 receiving yards and hauled in five touchdowns in 2024. Johnson also was a top contributor in the air, catching 18 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns.

On defense, Cyrus Burden and Bryson Roberts are the top returning tacklers, as Burden recorded 60 and Roberts 51 tackles in 2024. Burden led the team in tackles for loss with 12 and sacks with 4.5 at linebacker. Roberts led the defensive backs and had four pass breakups and three forced fumbles.

Owen Beatty led the team in interceptions with three and is one of the key returning defensive players in the Comets secondary.

While Foos is still searching for success in the OAC, one of the most competitive conferences in DIII football, this group of veterans could be the one to lead his team to a winning season, its first in over 15 years.
