The West Florida Argonauts are arguably one of the most underrated programs in NCAA Division II football entering the 2025 season, seeing as they return a variety of crucial players. FloSports has the Argonauts as the only Gulf South Conference team within the top five preseason rankings, sitting at No. 4 overall.

The Argonauts are coming off a 7-3 overall record, which is pretty impressive when they had to overcome a complete roster adjustment and only fell to ranked opponents. West Florida also managed to outplay its opponents by 100 offensive yards per game and ranked second in the Gulf South Conference in offensive yards per game at 33.1.

Although they’ll have to face the same competition that plagued them last season, the Argonauts are retaining a majority of their playmakers, including quarterback Marcus Stokes. He made his debut at starter in 2024 and threw for 1,540 yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions through eight games. The squad also returns its top two receivers, Corey Scott and Javon Swinton, and top two running backs, TJ Lane and Jay Sharp. Scott and Swinton combined for 904 yards and seven touchdowns, while Lane and Sharp added 902 yards and nine touchdowns.

West Florida also got acclimated to new head coach Kaleb Nobles in 2024, formerly the team’s offensive coordinator in 2023. With Nobles and company coming back in 2025, there’s a strong possibility for the Argonauts to conquer Division II football.

Who Is The West Florida Football Head Coach?

Kaleb Nobles is headed into year two with the Argonauts after helping to keep the program afloat through a wave of change from 2023-2024.

Nobles formerly served as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2023, taking part in leading the Argonauts to a 8-4 overall record, NCAA DII playoffs appearance, and a top 25 ranking through the entire season.

Being an Argonaut himself, Nobles was the starting quarterback for West Florida during its inaugural season back in 2016.
