West Alabama Football rose from a mere 5-5 overall record in 2023 to 9-2 and an NCAA Division II playoffs appearance with the rise of quarterback Spencer Arceneaux from backup to starter.

Arceneaux threw for almost 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns with just five interceptions across 11 games played while additionally recording 344 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. The junior was also gifted with two wide receivers and a tight end who could find the endzone in Khris Binion, Tyler Walker, and Caeleb Bass, who combined for 1,370 yards and 16 touchdowns. 

Although the 2025 roster is not yet available, Arceneaux is coming into his senior year, and it’s possible that he will remain with West Alabama, seeing as he’s spent the past three seasons with the Tigers. If he makes another significant jump in production, rising from 481 yards to 1,729 yards from 2023-2024, he could possibly bring his team to an undefeated season. 

However, the squad will be met with a new name at the helm, as the Tigers announced the hiring of new head coach Scott Cochran back in February. He replaces former head coach Brett Gilliland, who capped off his 11th season at his alma mater, West Alabama.

Who Is The West Alabama Head Coach?

Scott Cochran will bring a wide range of experience to the West Alabama Tigers, most recently leaving his position at Louisiana State University as a strength and conditioning coach. 

Cochran flourished in the SEC, taking another strength and conditioning position with Alabama and special teams coach at Georgia before heading to LSU. He’s been a part of programs that have won multiple conference and national championships, and now looks to bring West Alabama to a similar level of athletic and academic achievement.
