The UAlbany Great Danes head into 2025 with an interim head coach and an injured starting quarterback, but hope to revive the team in time for August 30.

The UAlbany Great Danes finished at 4-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play in 2024 after over a decade under head coach Greg Gattuso, who had just brought the squad to a 11-4 record in 2023. Gattuso has since exited the program and put it in the hands of interim head coach and former associate head coach Jared Ambrose ahead of a daunting 2025 season.

UAlbany tried to fix the void of former 2023 starting quarterback Reese Poffenbarger with sophomore Myles Burkett, who put on a promising performance for the Great Danes with nearly 2,000 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2024.

But now the quarterback situation is questionable for UAlbany. The expected starter for the new season, sophomore Van Weber, suffered a knee injury during spring practice. Georgia Tech transfer and sophomore Aidan Semo and fellow sophomore Kyle Keckler seem like the only viable options at the moment.
