The Pomona-Pitzer football team was dominant in conference play last season and used that momentum to win the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference outright for the first time since the 1950s.
The Sagehens got their first modern taste of victory with a share of the SCIAC title in 2022, the last time the standings determined the champion. They tied with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to become co-winners, while Pomona’s head-to-head win over CMS that year sent the Sagehens to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
In the new two-division conference format that debuted in 2023, Pomona-Pitzer missed out on a return trip to the playoffs, but the squad got redemption in 2024.

The Sagehens finished the 2024 regular season 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the SCIAC, which was more than enough to take the top spot in the conference’s three-team Sun Division standings.
The team was rewarded with a spot in the SCIAC championship game, where an unforgettable second-half comeback helped the Sagehens past Chapman 37-34. Chapman, the Surf Division champion, led the title game 28-7 at halftime.
Unfortunately for the Sagehens, their luck ran out in the playoffs.
Pomona-Pitzer’s conference title came with a return trip to the NCAA Division III Football Championship, but the SCIAC champs were bounced from the first round by Whitworth, 21-13.
The Sagehens finished the 2024 season 8-3 overall, which was an improvement from 6-4 in 2023.
