While it has been eight months since the 2024 season ended for the Wayne State football team, if the Warriors somehow can harness the feelings and momentum of their final two games, that could mean big things for the new campaign.

The Warriors closed last season with back-to-back wins, signed more than 30 new players, and made a handful of additions to the coaching staff.

Those are a lot of positives for a team that started 0-9 and went on to finish 2-9 overall and 2-5 within the strong Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The new-look squad, led by third-year head coach Tyrone Wheatley, will start the year with a familiar nonconference opponent, Tiffin, which handed WSU its first loss in 2024 by a score of 31-17.

Wayne State will host the Dragons at Tom Adams Field in Detroit on Sept. 4, kicking off an 11-game slate that includes five home games.

The Warriors’ two wins in 2024 came against Roosevelt and Northern Michigan, and those again will be WSU’s final two opponents, respectively.
