Stony Brook Women's Basketball (21-3,12,2) is now first in the CAA standings following its recent three-game winning streak in February. Following the Seawolves' recent win via forfeit on Feb. 25 against Northeastern, the Seawolves find themselves with a chance at winning their first CAA Women's Basketball regular season title in school history.

Last year, Stony Brook finished (18-3, 11-7) in the program's first season in the CAA. The Seawolves were formally in the America East Conference where they won their first regular season championship in 2020 and went on to win the America East Championship Tournament.

With only four regular season games left for the 2023-2024 season, Stony Brook is a strong contender to win the 2024 CAA regular season title.

Head coach Ashley Langford, who was appointed as coach in 2021, has helped propel the program to new heights in its recent transition to the CAA. After leading the Seawolves to No.6 in the 2023 CAA tournament seeding, Langford and her team defeated Elon in the first round to pick up their first-ever win in the tournament.

The offensive approach from Langford has helped increase Stony Brook’s scoring output tremendously. In the 2020-2021 season seven players increased their scoring from the season prior.

Stony Brook is second in scoring averaging 75.0 points per game, trailing only to Charleston Women's Basketball averaging 76.5 points per game.

Leading the pack for Stony Brook this year are two dynamic scorers in Gigi Gonzalez and Khari Clark. Gonzalez leads the CAA in scoring averaging 16.2 points per game on 41.7% FG shooting and 35.3% from beyond the arc. Clark ranks third in CAA scoring averaging 15.9 points per game  on 62.5% FG shooting and 38.9% 3-point-FG. The scoring duo has played a major role in Stony Brook's surge to the No. 1 seed in February.

With the 2024 CAA Women's Basketball Tournament scheduled for March 13 the remaining four games of the season will be a major factor in the tournament brackets.

Here's a look at what's ahead for Stony Brook and the rest of the CAA as the 2023-24 regular season comes to a close.
