CAA Football has announced its weekly award winners for Week 10 of the 2023 season.

Hampton junior running back Elijah Burris was honored as the Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Villanova senior linebacker Brendan Bell and UAlbany senior defensive end AJ Simon shared Defensive Player of the Week accolades. Elon freshman kicker Jack Berkowitz was chosen as the Special Teams Player of the Week and UAlbany freshman running back Griffin Woodell was named the Rookie of the Week.

CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week

Elijah Burris, Jr., RB, Hampton (Gastonia, N.C./Mountain Island Charter)

Burris rushed for a career-high 173 yards and a career-best four touchdowns on only 14 carries (12.4 ypc) as Hampton rallied past Maine, 42-35. The junior had scoring runs of 1 and 80 yards before providing the game-tying and game-winning scores with a pair of 7-yard TD runs in the fourth quarter, including the final one with 1:48 to play. It was Burris’ fifth 100-yard effort in the past six games.

CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Brendan Bell, Sr., LB, Villanova (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge)

Bell recorded a career-high tying 12 tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in #17 Villanova’s 45-33 win at New Hampshire. The senior picked off his first pass of the season in the third quarter and his forced fumble in the second quarter was returned to the 6-yard line and set up a TD. Bell, who added a half-sack, leads VU with 55 total tackles.

CAA Football Co-Defensive Player of the Week

AJ Simon, Sr., DE, UAlbany (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West)

Simon tallied six tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble as part of a dominant UAlbany defensive effort in a 24-8 triumph over William & Mary. The senior was involved in half of the Great Danes’ six first-half sacks as UAlbany held the Tribe to a season-low 216 yards, including 45 on the ground, and no points until 3:28 remained in the game. Simon has 10.5 sacks this season.

CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week

Jack Berkowitz, Fr., PK, Elon (Shelby, N.C./Shelby)

Berkowitz was 4-for-4 on field goals and added three extra points to help Elon post a 33-27 victory at #5 Delaware. The freshman connected on field goals of 36 and 42 yards in the first half and then hit from 37 and a career-best 44 yards in the fourth quarter to end the Blue Hens’ six-game winning streak. He’s 10-for-13 on FG’s for the season.

CAA Football Rookie of the Week

Griffin Woodell, Fr., RB, UAlbany (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls)

Woodell rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries to help #23 UAlbany defeat #24 William & Mary, 24-8. The freshman helped seal the win with a 15-yard TD run in the fourth quarter as he reached the 100-yard mark for the second time in the past three games. Woodell added two catches for 46 yards.
