Timberlake led the way for Towson in a 3-0 week to earn his league-leading third CAA Player of the Week honor this season.

The guard from outside Boston averaged 19.3 points on 49% shooting and 11-of-22 (50%) from 3, while adding four rebounds in the Tigers’ victories over Hofstra, North Carolina A&T and Elon.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Moore’s efforts powered Drexel to a 2-0 week that earned the Dragons their best eight-game start (6-2) in CAA play in 11 seasons. The guard from Philadelphia scored 14 points and dished out seven assists in Thursday’s victory over Hampton before pouring in 21 points and grabbing five rebounds in Saturday’s overtime win over Delaware at a sold-out DAC. NEWS AND NOTES

CHARLESTON: 21-1

No. 18 Charleston is 21-1 following Saturday’s victory. The Cougars' win total (21), win percentage (.955) and winning streak (20) lead the nation.

Charleston is the first CAA team in the AP poll since 1987, 6-1 against last year’s NCAA Tournament field and 4-0 against defending conference champions (A10, ACC, CAA, SoCon).

The Cougars are the first mid-major to win the Charleston Classic. They captured the title with a victory over Virginia Tech in November.

Charleston’s resume also includes wins over Kent State and UNCW, with the lone setback coming at preseason No. 1 North Carolina.

QUAD WORKOUT

CAA teams hold 10 wins that qualify as Quad 2 in the NET.

Charleston (Kent State, Virginia Tech, UNCW) has three Q2 wins, while Hofstra has three (Iona, San Jose State, Princeton) and Towson (UNCG), UNCW (North Texas), North Carolina A&T (Hofstra) and William & Mary (UNCW) each have one.

The CAA went 6-2 against both the Sun Belt and MAAC, 8-3 against the A10 and 7-3 against the SoCon, in addition to wins over the ACC and American.

DREXEL GETTING DEFENSIVE

Drexel is 6-2 to begin CAA play for the first time since the 2011-2012 season, when the Dragons ripped off 19 straight victories in a 29-win campaign.

Drexel’s 61 points per game allowed ranks 16th nationally, and the Dragons have held their opponents under 60 in 10 of their 12 victories, with two opponents - UT Arlington and Monmouth - kept under 40.

The Dragons have limited conference opponents to 59.3 points per contest.

HERE COME THE TIGERS

Towson has won four straight, all by double digits, to move into a tie for third place in the CAA standings at 6-2.

The Tigers have limited opponents to 67 points or less in all six conference wins and to less than 50 twice.

TAKING PRIDE IN CONSISTENCY

Hofstra’s victory Thursday was its 100th since the start of the 2018-2019 season, a feat achieved by just 40 programs nationally.

The Pride’s last five seasons have 21 or more wins in the three full regular-season schedules played, plus the 2020 CAA title.

Hofstra is 6-2 in league play this season - the sixth consecutive CAA slate the Pride have been above .500 through eight games.

HEY NINETEEN

Three CAA guards are averaging 19 or more points per game this season to rank in the top 35 nationally in scoring average.

Hofstra’s Aaron Estrada is 18th at 20.1 points per game, Delaware’s Jameer Nelson Jr. is 24th (19.8 ppg) and North Carolina A&T’s Kam Woods is 33rd (19.2).

Nelson was named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List last week.

EYE ON THE PRIZE

CBS Sports Network is the home of 18 CAA Men’s Basketball games this winter, including the semifinals and title game of the CAA Championship.

The 15-game regular-season package includes at least one game for every CAA team and will feature John Fanta and Dave Ryan as play-by-play broadcasters, along with Tarik Turner, Terrence Oglesby and Dr. John Giannini as analysts.

Fanta also will join Karlie Smith for a weekly #CAAHoops breakdown on CAASports.com and @CAABasketball on Twitter.

CSC APPRECIATION WEEK

Jan. 18-24 is CSC Membership Appreciation Week to recognize the communications staffs around college athletics for their tireless work throughout the year to the benefit of the programs and student-athletes they work with.

These notes packages would not be possible without the work of the athletic communications contacts at the CAA’s 13 members: Lynn Walsh (Charleston), Ed LeFurge (Delaware), Mike Tuberosa (Drexel), Troy Sayles (Elon), Matthew White (Hampton), Stephen Gorchov (Hofstra), Gary Kowal (Monmouth), Brian Holloway (North Carolina A&T), Joe Browning (UNCW), Matt Houde (Northeastern), Hayley Maltese (Stony Brook), David Castellanos (Towson) and Kris Sears (William & Mary). Thank you!
