Kennesaw (GA) Harrison High School quarterback Justin Fields -- one of the highest-rated high school players of all time -- has officially committed to Georgia for the class of 2018.

The commitment, while obviously an enormous win for head coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs, is anything but unexpected. Georgia has long been considered the leader in the clubhouse, just ahead of Florida State. The following was 247Sports' crystal ball prediction for Fields:

null

Fields initially committed to Penn State in December of last year but decommitted in June. His stock skyrocketed after what is widely considered to be the best performance in the history of Nike's The Opening camp this summer -- throwing 16 touchdowns and no interceptions while leading his team to the 7-on-7 championship.

Five games into his senior season, Fields has picked up where he left off, completing 60 percent of his throws for 974 yards, 12 touchdowns, and just one pick -- and rushing for 575 yards and 10 more scores.

Some wondered how freshman Jacob Fromm's emergence at Georgia would affect Fields' loyalty to the Dawgs -- though the impact was clearly overstated. Fields is one of several elite prospects eyeing Georgia, and his commitment has the potential to swing the entire 2018 recruiting race.

He has selected the Bulldogs over Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU. Fields' 0.9998 247Sports Composite rating is the highest for a quarterback since Texas' Vince Young received a perfect 1.0000 in 2002. Fields' sister, Jaiden, is a Georgia softball commit from the class of 2019.

Along with running back Zamir White, Smart and the Bulldogs now have the top quarterback and running back of the 2018 class headed for Athens.
