Can you ever have too much of a good thing? This past weekend put that question to the ultimate test with a plethora of huge matchups on every level, from high school to the NFL -- many of which were taking place simultaneously.

The answer, of course, was absolutely not. Football flurries are the best kind of flurries. But keeping up with everything across the sport wasn't just challenging -- it was all but impossible.

So, while you were enjoying your beverages and basking in the glory of your team's big victory -- or doing whatever Ohio State fans did instead -- here's what you missed.

Terry Godwin Goes Full Odell

The college football season is just two weeks old, and we've already had a few candidates for catch of the year. With apologies to New Mexico State's Jaleel Scott, Georgia wide receiver Terry Godwin shut down the competition in the Bulldogs' 20-19 win over Notre Dame on Saturday in South Bend, IN.

Back in my day, the proper noun-turned-verb for "great catch" was to "Moss" someone. After Odell Beckham Jr.'s completely incomprehensible catch on Sunday Night Football two seasons ago, "Moss'd" became "Odell'd."

Since then, folks have been a little too eager at times to attach Beckham's name to someone else's catch, but Godwin's is completely deserving of the notation. The grab was so unbelievable that the nearest referee literally didn't believe it.

D.J. Irons Puts Grayson On His Back

Trailing 9-3 in the third quarter of what was a slugfest controlled in large part by Louisiana's No. 1-ranked John Curtis Christian, Grayson (GA) quarterback D.J. Irons suddenly took over at the Battle on the Border on Saturday in Shreveport, LA.

Irons, who had been bottled up by the Patriots in the first half at Independence Stadium, had just 65 total yards through the game's first 29 minutes. Over the final 18:59, the senior field general totaled 152 total yards and three touchdowns to lead the Rams to 19 unanswered points and a 22-9 victory at the Battle on the Border.

After falling behind 9-3, Irons led back-to-back scoring drives spanning 22 plays and 141 yards before landing the knockout blow in the form of a 20-yard touchdown pass to Mahari Stribling late in the fourth quarter.

Unless you were in the bowels of Independence Stadium, where Shreveport's finest insisted on keeping the only television tuned to LSU's blowout win over Chattanooga, you probably missed this one. We had the good fortune of seeing it live -- and now you have the good fortune of seeing it without watching a 45-10 game between an FCS also-ran and one of the SEC's best teams.

Baker Mayfield Plants Flag, Emphatically Confirms That OU Is Very, Very Back

One day, Baker Mayfield will go down in Oklahoma lore as a folk hero -- an undersized, under-recruited walk-on quarterback who morphed into arguably the best college quarterback in the country (I said arguably, Lamar Jackson fans) and played with an edge and personality that only Brian Bosworth can match in Sooners history.

On Saturday, No. 6 added a page to the story -- or, hell, maybe a whole chapter -- in not just leading Oklahoma to a road win at the Horseshoe over the second-ranked Buckeyes but also infusing an energy and confidence into his teammates throughout the game that has simply been lacking in Norman, OK, for a while.

Jaylon Smith Makes His NFL Debut

The former Notre Dame star was in line to become a top five NFL Draft pick before a devastating knee injury suffered in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl left doubt as to whether he'd ever even play again.

On Sunday, Smith started at linebacker for the team that took a chance on him with the 34th overall pick of last year's draft -- officially completing a nearly 20-month rehabilitation process. Smith made seven tackles in the Dallas Cowboys' 19-3 win against the New York Giants and was recognized by the NBC broadcast as one of three players of the game.
