While You Were Tailgating: 5 Things You Have To See From The Weekend

While You Were Tailgating: 5 Things You Have To See From The Weekend
Suffice to say, week one delivered. Narrowing the 96 hours down to five things is an impossible task, but we'll give you our best effort -- which is more than the Florida offense can say.

Jaleel Scott's Catch

That is not Odell Beckham Jr. in a New Mexico State uniform. That's Jaleel Scott making what may already be the catch of the year. The Aggies gave Arizona State all it wanted in this one but ultimately fell 37-31 in Tempe, AZ, last Thursday.

Bryce Thompson Makes His Presence Felt -- Immediately

In what was billed as the biggest regular-season high school game of the year in the state of South Carolina, Dutch Fork's Bryce Thompson wasted no time before making an impact against visiting Fort Dorchester on Friday, taking the opening kickoff to the house to give the Silver Foxes an early lead.

Unfortunately for Dutch Fork, Thompson was the lone bright spot for the hosts in a 41-25 loss to Fort Dorchester.

Dazjon Casto Has Himself A Day

Fort Dorchester quarterback Dakereon Joyner was as good as advertised in the Patriots' win over Dutch Fork, but teammate Dazjon Casto stole the show. The senior safety intercepted two passes and took both back for touchdowns -- though the second pick-six was called back.

Casto was an absolute problem for the Silver Foxes, and there was no solution.

Chosen Rosen

Raise your hand if you turned the Texas A&M-UCLA game off when TAMU was leading 44-10 on Sunday night in Pasadena, CA. If your hand is down, you're lying. The Aggies' Trayveon Williams was strutting with a drum major's baton after scoring on a 61-yard touchdown run, and Texas A&M was rolling at the Rose Bowl. S-E-C, S-E-C. Nothing to see here.

Then things got real weird. It's tough to know whether to credit UCLA or discredit Texas A&M for the Bruins' incredible 45-44 comeback win. Probably a little bit of both.

Caylin Newton Isn't Just "Cam's Brother" Anymore

Howard was a 40-point underdog in its week one matchup with UNLV, but Cam's little brother didn't have time for that. He had a party to throw on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Caylin Newton totaled 330 yards -- 190 on the ground -- and three touchdowns to lead Howard to a 43-40 win in the largest point-spread upset in college football history.

Extra Point: Mike Sanford's First Win

We couldn't cap it at five this week. The second-youngest head coach in college football is undefeated.

Western Kentucky handled a persistent Eastern Kentucky squad 31-17 in a renewal of the Battle of the Bluegrass to hand Mike Sanford his first win as a head coach. Sanford has some luck on his side -- as in sophomore Lucky Jackson, who exploded for 144 receiving yards and a touchdown.
