Joyner, Fort Dorchester Exact Revenge In Road Win At Dutch Fork
Fort Dorchester defeats Dutch Fork 41-25. Dakereon Joyner scores four times.
IRMO, S.C. -- In what many agreed would prove to be the biggest high school football game in the state of South Carolina this season, it was Fort Dorchester -- twice losers to Dutch Fork a season ago -- who turned in a dominant road performance to snap the Silver Foxes' 16-game win streak and obtain some much needed payback with a 41-25 victory over the defending state champs.
Patriots' quarterback Dakereon Joyner was outstanding in the win, totaling 243 yards -- including 113 on the ground -- and four touchdowns.
Dutch Fork's Bryce Thompson got the scoring started early with a 94-yard return on the opening kickoff and things were looking good for the hosts. But a 10 play, 62-yard scoring drive on Fort Dorchester's ensuing possession stamped out the early momentum -- and started a run of 27 unanswered points for Joyner & Co.
Dazjon Casto gave the Patriots their first lead of the game with an 89-yard pick six to spoil Dutch Fork's next series, followed by back-to-back Joyner touchdown runs.
The Silver Foxes seized a glimmer of hope on the final play of the first half when Thompson -- who was a bright spot for Dutch Fork in the loss -- hauled in a 13-yard touchdown pass from Ty Olenchuk, but the 27-14 tally at the break would be as close as things would get.
The loss drops Dutch Fork to 2-1 overall on the season. Fort Dorchester improves to 3-0 and will be the top-ranked team in Class AAAAA next week.
