According to police, Farmingville (NY) Sachem East High School players were carrying the log overhead during a conditioning drill at the school when it fell on top of Joshua Mileto, a 16-year-old junior on the team.

Mileto was taken Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"The district is devastated by this horrific accident and words cannot express the grief we feel as a school community," Sachem Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Graham said in a statement on the district website. "We extend our deepest condolences to the student's family and friends during this terribly difficult time."
