2017 National High School Top 25

1. null Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA)
Record: 7-0
Last Week: Defeated St. John Bosco (CA) 31-21
Next Up: vs. JSerra Catholic (CA)

In the biggest high school game of the week -- and one of the biggest of the year -- top-ranked Mater Dei outlasted St. John Bosco in a game it led by just one score at the break. JT Daniels finished 17 for 23 for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown had eight catches for 212 yards and two touchdowns and a punt return for a score.

2. null IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)
Record: 5-0
Last Week: Idle
Next Up: at Salt Lake City East (UT)

IMG received a far greater challenge from Venice (FL) than the Ascenders probably expected to receive two weeks ago. Venice trailed just 17-12 entering the fourth quarter before IMG erupted with three touchdowns in less than five minutes to separate itself from the Indians. The Ascenders enjoyed a bye week last week in preparation of yet another high-profile cross-country matchup with East.

3. null American Heritage (Plantation, FL)
Record: 5-0
Last Week: Defeated Cardinal Gibbons (FL) 23-19
Next Up: vs. Miami Jackson (FL)

American Heritage took care of business against Cardinal Gibbons -- widely considered to be the Patriots' primary challenger in Florida's Class 5A. Tyler Jones rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown on just eight carries to put American Heritage in the driver's seat in District 16-5A.

4. null Allen (Allen, Texas)
Record: 6-0
Last Week: Defeated Plano (Texas) 38-10
Next Up: at Denton Guyer (Texas)

The 28-point spread does little to illustrate Allen's domination of Plano in what was the program's 30th consecutive victory in its $60 million home since Eagle Stadium opened in 2012. Grant Tisdale completed 8 of 11 throws for 251 yards and three touchdowns.

5. null South Pointe (Rock Hill, SC)
Record: 8-0
Last Week: Defeated Lancaster (SC) 45-10
Next Up: at Richland Northeast (SC)

Derion Kendrick was as good as he needed to be -- throwing for 125 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 60 yards -- but it was running back Marice Whitlock who starred for the Stallions, rushing for 146 yards and a touchdown on just five carries.

6. nullCentral (Miami, FL)
Record: 7-1
Last Week: Defeated Hialeah-Miami Lakes (FL) 59-0
Next Up: vs. Miami Northwestern (FL)

Miami Central continues to dominate folks, destroying Hialeah-Miami Lakes on Friday in what was the Rockets' second shutout victory by 50 points or more.

7. null Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV)
Record: 6-2
Last Week: Defeated Desert Oasis (NV) 64-0
Next Up: at Durango (NV)

Here's a not-so-fun fact for Bishop Gorman opponents: The Gaels have won their past four games by a combined total of 241-0. Against Desert Oasis, Dorian Thompson-Robinson completed 9 of 11 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns, and the Gaels scored on their first 10 possessions.

8.null Corona Centennial (Corona, CA)
Record: 5-1
Last Week: Defeated Santiago (CA) 61-14
Next Up: vs. Corona (CA)

Corona Centennial was dominant once again on Friday night, hammering Santiago for its fourth straight blowout victory since falling to No. 2 IMG Academy on Sept. 2. In their five victories, the Huskies are averaging 63 points per game and have twice eclipsed the 70-point mark.

9.  null St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD)
Record: 7-0
Last Week: Defeated Gilman (MD) 50-0
Next Up: at Archbishop Spalding (MD)

It's difficult to find a team more well rounded than St. Frances Academy. The Panthers hung half-a-hundred on Gilman -- and it could have been much worse. Eyabi Anoma and Co., are the class of Maryland.

10. null St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA)
Record: 5-2
Last Week: Lost to No. 1 Mater Dei (CA) 31-21
Next Up: vs. Santa Margarita (CA) at El Camino College

A loss is never "good," but losing to Mater Dei by 10 points -- and trailing by just a score at the break -- isn't bad, either. St. John Bosco sophomore DJ Uiagalelei went 12 of 22 for 256 yards and two touchdowns and added 55 yards rushing in the losing effort.
