Steven Williams To Start For Old Dominion (And Make All Of Us Look Bad)
Steven Williams To Start For Old Dominion (And Make All Of Us Look Bad)
Seventeen-year-old Steven Williams will start at QB for Old Dominion on Saturday.
What were you doing at 17 years old? Anything good? No?
Me either.
In September of my 17th trip around the sun, I was busy wrecking my first car for no good reason, skipping classes for being too early, too late, or right after lunch, and blowing coverages against Fort Smith (AR) Southside.
Sorry, Gus.
Conversely, 17-year-old Steven Williams is about to start at quarterback for Old Dominion on the road at No. 13 Virginia Tech on Saturday.
At that age, I was still trying to learn how to drive a stick shift.
Williams, a two-star prospect from Washington DC's Woodrow Wilson High School, will be driving the offense of what was a 10-win team in 2016 with 15 returning starters in 2017 and very clear bowl aspirations… in Blacksburg, VA… against a defense tied for seventh in the country in turnover margin through three games.
Forget a learner's permit. Williams is climbing in the window of a stock car and making laps at Daytona.
In a recent interview with the Virginia Pilot, Monarchs head coach Bobby Wilder called Williams "the defined leader of this organization" and a player that the 27-year coaching veteran says will not lose his starting gig.
Did I mention the kid should be getting ready for the homecoming dance? Williams ought to be attempting to pin a stupid boutonnière without stabbing himself with a push pin. Instead, he'll be running from All-ACC linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka.
Show off.
