Re-al Mitchell: Son Of Blaze
Re-al Mitchell: Son Of Blaze
St. John Bosco QB Re-al Mitchell is the son of a former American Gladiator.
Anytime two great athletes procreate, the joke is always the same: "Offer that kid a scholarship at birth," we quip, as though it's original material.
In the case of St. John Bosco (CA) quarterback Re-al Mitchell, however, not pushing for a verbal commitment from an infant was, in fact, a gross oversight by all parties.
Mitchell's father, Rodney Mitchell, is U.S. Marine who went on to become a Hollywood actor and stunt double -- oh, and his mother is Sha-ri Mitchell, the athlete better known as Blaze from the TV show "American Gladiators."
Re-al was destined for greatness -- be it as a quarterback or a Batman villain. And, yet, not only were Bobby Bowden and Bo Schembechler absent from the hospital nursery, but Jimbo Fisher and Jim Harbaugh also still aren't on board.
No matter, the 6-foot, 190-pound Mitchell -- who somehow, some way, remained one of the best-kept secrets in high school football well into his junior year -- is no longer incognito as he prepares to lead his No. 7-ranked Braves team on the road test against St. John's College High School in Washington, DC, on Friday night.

The three-star field general now counts 20-or-so offers -- a list that includes programs like South Carolina, Kansas State, and Northwestern.
Racking up 4,100 total yards and 47 touchdowns while claiming a California state title will have that effect on a player's recruitment -- which is more than we can say about being the son of a body builder who used to really rock at Atlasphere, apparently.
Mitchell committed to Iowa State in March, just over a month after receiving an offer from the Cyclones. Since then, Blaze's kid has received eight more offers but remains firm in his commitment to play in Ames, Iowa.
Between now and National Signing Day, Iowa State fans will be holding their breath. Re-al Mitchell will be busy taking ours away.
