Byrd Closes Out Battle On The Border With 28-19 Victory Over Moss Point
Trailing 6-0 with time running out on the first half, Byrd marched 91 yards with Thomas leading the way, before getting on the board with a Thomas touchdown run just seven seconds before the break. The point after gave the Hornets a 7-6 lead.
Out of the break, it was Thomas again -- this time from 20 yards out -- extending the lead Byrd lead to 14-6.
Moss Point, to its credit, responded. Devin Simpson got loose for a 63-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. The two-point conversion attempt to tie the game failed, but the Tigers were back in it.
The Yellow Jackets Lawson Jackson answered with a 20-yard touchdown run of us his own to push the lead to two possessions at 21-12, but Moss Point's Dewayne Sipp blocked a Byrd punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown one possession later. This time, the Tigers opted for the extra point to make it 21-19 with just over four minutes to play.
Moss Point would get no closer, however. With just 57 seconds to play, Thomas put a bow on an outstanding performance, rushing in from 37 yards out to slam the door on Moss Point.
