Bishop Dunne's Calvin Avery Is A Monster
Dallas Bishop Dunne defensive tackle Calvin Avery is one of the nation's best.
One look at Bishop Dunne defensive tackle Calvin Avery wearing No. 99 while bulldozing his way into the offensive backfield instantly channels the memory of another No. 99 who looked similarly dominant on film -- albeit against a bit different level of competition.
Of course, we're talking about former Tampa Bay Buccaneers great Warren Sapp.
"Calvin is a baby Warren Sapp," Bishop Dunne head coach Michael Johnson said. "He's a phenomenal football player. He's the complete package: power, strength, athleticism, toughness, physicality. You can't single block this guy."
For those who try, Johnson has only well wishes.
"Good luck," he says.
Avery is an Under Armour All-American and a four-star prospect committed to Illinois. But Love Smith and the Illini better hold on tight. The 6-foot-2, 310-pounder also counts the likes of Oklahoma, USC, Florida State, Texas, and Notre Dame among his list of suitors.
A scouting report on Avery heading into Bishop Dunne's next game against Brentwood Academy (TN) in the Battle on the Border on Saturday in Shreveport, LA, could be summed up in three words: He crushes people.
But, just for fun, let's allow his tape to do the talking, shall we?

Step 1: Destroy the guard. Step 2: Engulf the running back. Check and check. It's safe to say the opposing offense can scrap this play for the remainder of this one.
There aren't many 310-pound three-techniques meeting the quarterback at the end of their three-step drop. There aren't many "baby Warren Sapps" out there, either.
Avery isn't all size and strength. His athleticism is on full display in this one, as he hits the guard with the okie doke followed by a sweet swim move.
How many backside defensive tackles do you know who blow up off-tackle sweeps?
That awkward moment when a defensive tackle blows up your wide receiver slip screen.
Even a double team isn't necessarily a recipe for success.
Want to see more? Avery and the Falcons take on Brentwood Academy (TN) in the Battle on the Border on Saturday at 3 PM (CT), and we'll have it for you live at FloFootball.com.
