Fred Jackson & Anthony Dixon Bring Bills Mafia To The Spring League

Fred Jackson & Anthony Dixon Bring Bills Mafia To The Spring League
There's going to be plenty of talent at the running back position for The Spring League Showcase on Saturday, July 15, including two former Buffalo Bills players who are headlining the elite rosters assembling in Napa, California.

Fred Jackson is third all-time on the Bills rushing list with 5,646 yards over eight seasons. Jackson was a versatile player during his time in Buffalo. He totaled 322 receptions, which ranks No. 5 all-time for the Bills organization. After being released by the Bills, he signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks for the 2015 season. During his time in Seattle, Jackson advanced to the postseason for the first time in his career but wasn't a major part of the Seahawks' offense. He actually had more receptions (32) than rushing attempts (26).

After a year off in 2016, the 36-year-old running back is not ready to hang up his cleats just yet. Jackson has acknowledged that it will be a long shot to land a contract because his age will scare off a lot of teams. That's still not stopping him from fighting to keep his pro football career alive. A lot can happen during training camps and the NFL preseason. Making a big impact at The Spring League Showcase could help raise his stock for teams looking for a veteran back as the season approaches.

Anthony Dixon started his career with the San Francisco 49ers after being picked during the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft. Dixon ran for over 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns during his four years at Mississippi State. His biggest year with the Niners was his first. After running for 237 yards in his first season, he received fewer than 30 attempts during his remaining three years in San Francisco.

Dixon's career was briefly rejuvenated after he was traded to the Buffalo Bills in 2014. Injuries to C.J. Spiller and Jackson gave Dixon the opportunity for more game reps. He carried the ball 105 times for 432 yards and two touchdowns. After seeing fewer touches in the 2015 season due to the lethal ground combination of LeSean McCoy and Tyrod Taylor, Dixon was released by the Bills in March 2016.

Even though both players have been away from the game for the past year, there's no doubt they'll get plenty of support from the Bills Mafia, one of the most loyal fan bases in the National Football League. They'll also be reunited with former Bills defensive backs coach Donnie Henderson, who will join The Spring League coaching staff.
